Hello everyone. Purchased this thing at the start of 2013 for relatively cheap, '89 factory manual ma70 turbo. Came with Cusco zero 2's all round, near new carbon wrapped ganador mirrors, clean interior, nice paint and as I'm sure most of you can assume, a nice blown head gasket.

(On the trailer)

Got it home, got it off trailer, looked at it in better detail, fucked around with some stuff.

Investigated the bhg, turned out I caught it pretty early, luckily..

Did the usual stuff, Got a hks metal gasket, arp studs, new seals through the motor, got rid of the shitty factory oil cooler and replace it with -10 lines and a 10 row cooler.

Got it all back together, the ct26 was cactus, so I bought an old greddy td06 kit (The one with the t3 adaptor flange) and a toms r5 remap ecu for better maps and no fuel/boost cut, bought some wheels, Needed more steering lock as standard is rubbish, used some jzz30/sc300 knuckles shortened, slip on spacers and I elongated the lower balljoint holes, gave me about 6 degrees of negative camber and heaps more lock (Perfect) Attended qld 24 hour matsuri, did some skids, killed a 5 day old koyo rad as a result of a shitty fan shroud and a dead engine mount..

The soarer brakes I was using were glazed and rubbish, So I went with some ucf20/ls400(Ithink) front calipers and rotors as they bolt straight to the soarer knuckles.

I had decided to bite the bullet and buy a 1j as it came up for relatively cheap, bought a trust greddy td06-25g kit for it.

Then a mate of mine offered me his built 7m and a steal, so I sold the 1j and proceeded to sink money into the new 7m and bit and pieces for it (Who gets rid of a 1j for a 7m?)

Put it on an engine stand, painted some stuff, bought some cams for it (Toda 272 7.9mm intake bc 272 8.7mm exhaust)

Pulled the old motor out, degreased the engine bay.

Bought some fuel lines and fittings today, waiting on clutch to be rebuild, engine mounts to arrive, money for ecu and various other miscellaneous items.

Basic spec list at the moment is

Engine
7m-gteu
Nitrided 6m crank
Balanced rotating assembly
Eagle rods
9:1 CR Arias forged pistons (20thou or .5mm oversize)
Running toda 272 7.9mm intake BC 272 8.7mm exhaust and standard cam wheels.
BC 1mm oversize stainless valves with 3 angle grind
BC valve springs (thick ass single springs)
BC titanium retainers
Port matched manifolds and a slight port polish with good surfacing
Cometic MLS head gasket 1.3mm (total cr is about 9.2:1 ish)
ARP head studs, main studs, and rod bolts
fabricated steam pipe exhaust manifold with 6 into 1 merge collector
Trust greddy td06 25g 12cm t3 vband rear housing, externally gated through a tial 44mm gate witha 1 bar spring
Denso 1000cc injectors
Car
'89 ma70 factory manual turbo(r154) Japanese import
Digital dash
grey interior
Padded nardi gara steering wheel
Greddy 60mm water and oil temp, hks 60mm oil pressure, greddy 80mm boost gauge
Bride gias II bucket seat
Most of a standard interior
carbon wrapped ganadors
Factor weather strips

Suspension/running gear

Cusco zero-2 coilovers
Standard arms everywhere except front end
jzz30 soarer knuckles cut and shut for extra lock
Elongated lower ball joint holes in the lca for extra track and wheel clearance when on lock
Powered by max cradle bushes/risers (To get rid of axle tramp)
Welded jza70 4.1 diff
ucf20 big brakes up front

Very basic write up at the moment as it is 20 past 2 in the am here in Australia..

Let me know what you guys think!

Will.

P.S. okay, so if anyone can tell me how to delete vbulletin attachments, that'd be great thanks!

Way to go! Looks like its going to be tons of fun. That 7m is pretty much what i want out of my build so I'm definitely going to keep checking on this

Nice looking 7M. Glad you didnt downgrade to a 1j :)

It's an entirely different animal with a real turbo and FFIM.

You will be happy with the torque and the ridiculous bat shit crazy sounds it makes.

Looking forward to seeing some drift videos of this thing.

Is that it in the back left?

Nah, that's my housemate's old 4agze powered ke70 corolla that he crashed pretty significantly at the track

Yeah, well I was impressed with how well the standard 7m went with the small td06, so I'd got high hopes for the built one with the big td06 and cams :D

This is some footage from the aforementioned 24 hour matsuri, now I'm not claiming to be good at it or anything but whatever. Excuse the lack of music, I find that when people ad music to the videos so much that you can't hear the car it's annoying.

Wow i like the RHD it feels like a completely different car compared to LHD. Is it very different drifting with a turbo than N/A?

Comparing like a 6mge to a 7mgte... Yes, but like an ls1 or something, yes haha, Power makes things easier, that's probably the best way to put it, there's 100% more skill involved when you're driving an underpowered car.

i didn't know if the spool of the turbo made the car act different compared without it or ex. like same powered car just non turbo vs turbo

Well, realisticly while drifting you're at the top of the rev most of the time so lag isn't really an issue, if it does present itself, just kick the clutch a couple of time and she'll come good. But obviously with a v8 or something, with a lot of torque, you've got a lot more usable rev range as opposed to at the top all of the time.

That's really cool to think about. I don't get to drift much around here there aren't many tracks close at all. What are you running your revs to on the 7m?

It's got standard rev limiter at the moment, so being 2nd gen 6250, in 3rd gear flat it was only hitting about 5500 or so? New motor will rev to 7500 or there abouts, depending on where power falls off.

Hi, i noticed you used the soarers knuckle, did you use its lower control arm too? Question asked because i've seen people with the soarers (sc300) knuckles and the wheels seem to be pushed towarded the back and not centered like before.

I used the supra lcas, the soarer ones were much shorter giving positive camber and didn't quite fit right into the cross member, I think the caster might be a result of the knuckle itself as opposed to the lca
