erm lets see, how much for a new head how much for the valve train components that are included? how much for the machine work? add it all up and im sure you will surpass $4000.

im also assuming a new head from toyota. yeah titan probably isnt getting one from toyota, however when you buy a used head from someone you (generally) have no real way of knowing the condition of the head, and (usually) no one to complain to if there is something wrong (cracks, corrosion, etc...)

in this case, its just as good as a new head from toyota as far as i am concerned, cause you know damn well that if there are any flaws with the head that titan will replace it.

Id rather have a used head that has been through heat cycles, then remachined and in good condition.

New heads under race condition, unless they have been through heat tempering, tend to warp.

I really like the fact that for $4000 you get a fully built head that looks incredible, AND you get to keep the old rusty bolts for the cam journals :biglaugh: :nono:

the point is this, obviously no, the machine work ALONE is not worth 4 grand, however you are buying a complete head with headwork and hardware all in one package. 4000 is reasonable. IMO!

i think they need to show flow #'s for stock head and this new head.in a n/a car the head is the most important hp making part of the engine.

flow numbers would be nice, though i cant see $4k. i say maybe $1k max on porting, then valves and valvetrain is ~$1200, thats $2200 right there, then say they spent a couple hundred for a used head in known good shape to start. thats still not even $3k. now, if it came with cams and gears, then yeah, id spend $4k, cams are ~$750 for a set of regrinds and cam gears are in the $400 range for a pair.

Great thing about bench racing is we can all sit here and say we know how to make this work for less, or that it's a reasonable price...

I just got done with my custom head work, and can't really prove any power gains yet. (Yet is the key word.)

Tourqe was great, so I know I did not screw up the flow down low, and as much as I opened up everything, top end power should be better than ever. (When I can get some other tuning issues resolved.)

Point is, you can do this for less, but 4k is not "horrible" for a bolt on replacement backed by a good shop.

What I'd like to see is a 2JZ based valve upgrade "kit" offered. Use stock 2JZ or even 1mm OS ones from Crower. Part of the kit would be custom ground stock cams using the longer 2JZ stems to increase our lift and duration slightly. (About as good as your going to get on the 7M from what I can see w/o losing more on the lower end than most of us would like in search of top end power.)

The ultimate setup would be shimless buckets that are thicker than stock, more cam base circle removed (So you could have even higher lift etc.) and the same valves/springs etc. Should be good for high RPM power, and would be cost effective at the same time v/s the Ti valvetrain stuff.

he didnt get his head p&p. diff shops charge diff for port work. theres local places that charge $450 for the same work another shop charges $1k for. even with $1k in porting, it isnt a $4k head. cant adjust clearances since it doesnt include cams. you have to set the clearances yourself.
