I'm going to look at a 1990 Corolla GTS tomorrow. I know alot of us are into other toyotas as well so I was wondering if someone could fill me in about these cars. I know NOTHING about them except I really like the GTS Two door coup body style :)

Anything anyone could tell me about the GTS would be great!

Im pretty sure he just has a Ae86, but i could be wrong.

Anyway, my friend actually owned one. It was a blast to drive, reliable as shit and easy to work on. When you take a look at it, the GT-S have a tendency to rust on the frame rails, wheel wells but most of all UNDER the front fenders.

We took my friends off and they have some weird setup where moisture gets locked in and starts to rust and rust over time.

Also when you go buy it, it might come with a sweet factory 10 speaker setup, but this sweet speaker setup tends to fail with the amp which is located under the passenger side seat. But it is usually just a contact issue with the amp and then it will be fine. Most important point.

Make sure BOTH headlights Go up AND down. lol man this is such a pita for all celica's/corollas of those years with pop ups. There are a few wires which can be exposed to the radiator fan and cut up to shreds in the process.
Also one more thing, check to make sure all the guages work. My friends RPM would not work until you hit about 1500 rpms, and the dash would only light up fully on one side due to a dimmer malfunction.
All in all good cars, except for the cup holder location. Believe me, you'll figure out why lol.
Hope this helps!

These cars are few and getting more rare by the day. You think Supra parts are getting tuff to come by, most of these parts are "discontinued" . There was only like a 2 year stint for these cars. Kinda like the "Corolla FX" .

I have had several AE86's and a 88 FWD GTS!!! The AE86 is funner to drive because its RWD but you really have to rev the hell out of it to get it to move. The AE86 is also way easier to work on. The FWD GTS is a little quicker less HP transfer ect!! All in all they are great cars and you cant kill them. I personally would buy a AE86 because they are really becoming a part of toyota history, way more so than the FWD GTS. A friend of mine and I are turboing a 86 AE86 Bluetop 4age as we speek so hopfully all will go well???

The cupholder placement in the supra is just fine.

I've had both a 1991 Corolla Sedan & 1991 Corolla SR5, with the 102hp 4A-FE engine. They were good cars, both lasted 200,000+ miles, but not as fun as a GTS would be. The forum I went to most often was www.toyotanation.com

Enjoy the Corolla and treat it well!

P.S. Both my Corollas went on because of BHGs, how ironic I'd buy a Supra!

I have 2 AE86's, an 86 and an 87. The 88+ Corolla is FWD.

His AE86 is RWD with a 4A-GE

A 1990 Corolla GT-S has a nicer 4A-GE than an AE86 though.

The AE92 also has more power than the AE86, so that helps as well.

The AE92 GT-S was made for 4 years (88-91), and for 5 years in other countries. I actually think I would disagree about more stuff being discontinued than the Supra, as the newer Corollas shared a lot of drivetrain components, and the 4A-GE was manufactured all the way up until 2000 in Japan. Judging from what I've looked up for people, and what I've sold etc, it seems like there are still a ton of parts for the AE92, in fact Toyota even released a set of quarter panel repair kits for the AE92 that are dirt cheap to fix rust on them. On the Supra you'll find a lot of stuff is still available, but almost everything for the interior is only available in grey now.

Justin, as far as the car goes, it's got 130HP, FWD, 4-wheel disc brakes, 4-wheel independant suspension. 14x5.5" aluminum wheels, stock front strut bar, decent sway bars front and rear, leather steering wheel and shift knob, decent seats, they're reliable and well-built, and if you can find one without rust, I'm sure it will run for a good long while with minimal maintenance, and the 4A-GE is a ton of fun.

There are no real problems with the cars from what I've heard or seen, and they don't look too bad either IMO. If you can get it for a decent price, I think it's worth snagging. :)

All that being said, the AE86 is more FTWer, as it is RWD, lol. DOORRRRIFFFFFFFFFTTTOOOOO!!!!

True, there is still plenty AE92 drivetrain and sedan parts available, but most things coupe related, either be prepared to wait on back order parts or happy salvage yard hunting. If I had the opportunity to own one for the right price, I'd be all over it. Keep in mind, it have to be in pretty good condition.

Thanks for the input everyone, Jeff.

I like to go into a sale knowing as much about the car as I can :)

What would a reasonable condition 90 GTS with 180k on it go for? He wants 3 which I think is pretty high. I'm thinking 2k?

Just make sure the muffler bearing still works well.

I already spoke with him about that. He says they're in great shape. He says he has maintained the blinker fluid at the correct level as well.
