The "which o2 sensor" thread

Seeing as there's alot of confusion as to which o2 sensor to use in the 1JZ-GTE, I'd like to make a thread to finally answer this question and help those trying to find the right o2 for their motor.

This is what I've gathered so far:

Toyota OEM p/o - 89465-29435 OR 89465-22130 (there's been both brought up)

NTK - OZA23-D2 OR NGK-29300 (both have been brought up)

Bosch - 13910

I've also heard 2JZ & 7M-GTE one's work.

I'd like for those who've purchased these to chime in so we on SM here can finally put a definite answer to this age old question.

If you are looking for a screw in type, the 90 5.0 Mustang O2 sensor works.

^ ---- Yes the 5.0 does work... however it is a completely different type of o2 sensor, it outputs voltage vs the stock one resistance. zircona vs ._____ (forgot). I did as much reading as i could about this topic before i purchased one 2 months ago, and i went with the Ford Mustang Bosch o2 sensor.... im not sure about longevity, or if it will fry the ecu, but it does seem to be working!.

They style I'm looking for is the one with the 2 bolt flange that has 3 wires coming from it (standard early 90's 1JZ o2 sensor)

Thesupra, if it is not working, the ECU would put out a code about the 02 Sensor signal.

I'm having a similar problem. I'm going with a single turbo setup now, and the stock 02 sensor doesn't fit in any of the bungs. I have a AEM wideband 02 sensor however, and I was told it can perform both jobs of feeding the wideband meter and feeding the ECU a "narrow-band" feed if you splice the wires properly. Plus it can give your ECU more accurate readings when compared to the stock one. I really would like to do this, but I don't have the instructions for the wideband so I have no idea what any of the wires for the AEM or stock 02 sensor do!

Has anyone done this before?

Ive been using a 90-92 supra 7m-gte o2 for years now and the car ran better and code 21 went away. It has 3 wires, is plug and play and cost around $100-120 if I remember correctly. Got it from Jeff Watson at champion toyota/ jay marks. He can get you the real 1jz one but its $400.

I may have to consider the 7M one, unless my guy at the local Yota stealership here can source me a 1JZ one for a decent price.

Does anyone know the compatibility with the 2JZ ones?

Bosch
with innovative tunning/logging module will do both serve as a wideband & narrow / gauge output.
Make sure to cailbrate it correctly and hook up the heater so you dont ruin it.
Its pretty simple mount the bosch the correct clocked position correct distance from the manifold flange/turbo
There is a 3rd brand it is not compatable i wish i could remember it.

The narrow band O2 haves little to do with the tunning of the supras most of it is bassed on the MAP MAF TPS.

With a wideband it makes tunning simpler & verifies components work!
So if you wanted to test what sensors work hook each one up brand new under the same conditions & fuel and monitor codes values and a wideband it will tell you for sure 100% what works and what doesnt.

I was running the bosch mustang one as well. It was around 40dollars and you get a lifetime warranty so you never have to buy another one! Works great.

How did you wire them up, i just bought a bosch o2 sensor for a mustang and trying to install it on my 1j.

bosch o2 wires
1 white
1 white
1 black

stock 1jz o2 wires

1black
1black
1 blue

No i understand we wire the blue jz to the black bosch wire for signal, what about the other to, does it matter which one connects to what.

No I don't think it matters, but on both of the sensors, the wires form a triangle. Match the black to the blue and just attach the other ones so it would be the same as stock.

i've also been told that there is a screw in chevy o2 sensor that will work, its a universal one that i think some have used... is there any info of this one?

The 87-90 7M-GTE one will work, however the connector is different than the 1JZ. The 91-92 7M-GTE uses the same connector and is direct plug 'n play.

89465-29435 - 90-93 1JZ-GTE O2 Sensor (Original, not available in North America)
89465-19455 - 91-92 7M-GTE O2 Sensor
234-3052 - Denso 91-92 Plug 'n Play Sensor (Basically same as factory 91-92 7M-GTE sensor, correct connector for 1JZ).
234-3050 - Denso 87-92 "Universal" Sensor (Same as the factory 87-92 7M-GTE sensor, no connector on it, you will need to use your old one).

Much appreciated, I'm going to see if I can get a 1JZ one ordered from my local stealership if it's not too much. If not I'll go with the Denso.

I know there's alot of confusion on which one's are the right to use and which ones have to be modded as opposed to plug and play. Hope this clears up some questions.

I contacted Denso when I was doing my swap and got this reply,
"Thank you for your interest in DENSO oxygen sensors. According to our reference material, it looks like this sensor was designated for Japan only, so that's why you're having a problem locating it. My application engineer gave me a couple of options for you (assuming it's a flange-type). According to his information, they should work for your application. "

If it's screw-in, we're in trouble.
Im using the OE Fit: 234-3052 which I got from jegs for 152 which included shipping. Works good, mileage is around 21 to the gallon with my lead foot.
