I come from a land down under
Because not all parts warm and expand to their running clearences at the same time so driving gently until everything is warm is a good idea...

You can idle till the engine is at operating temp what about the Trans and Diff?

I was more talking about engine warm up, and i understand you cant let an engine warm up to temp and then go racing off, but why is it a bad idea to let it get a little warm for a minuet or two and drive gently after that compared to just taking off the second you start up? I would think the extra load on the extremely cold parts would be worse.

When it is -30F (-34C). Comfortable is not the word I would use. More like, prevent your fingers from freezing is more appropiate!

thankfully, the dd has a heated steering wheel for such occasions:)
