Just did a little bit more research here, appears that the GTK's use an Inconel(?) turbine wheel and single ceramic bb cartridge because it is more stable at high RPM. It's an interesting read here.

Not sure how much of it is fact, but it seems to back up the rumor that they spool slightly quicker then Garrett GT series turbos.

Thanks for that info, I am just wondering if it is a GT type wheel or something close to it.

Yeah it is, it's no extra cost to have it water cooled. Was also no extra cost having it custom made to my specifications. I could have sworn that somewhere I read that they use GT series wheels. NOpe, to my knowledge BW has done tons of R & D and have some up with the S design wheels which is what is used in the GTK. Although bigger they spool as quick as the GT wheels. If I recal. But I am 100% sure the GTK are BW wheels.

GTK series turbos are Borg Warner turbos. GT is Garrett.

Where did you get that information? GTK are turbonetics, not borg warner.

Tubonetics is just another distributor that sells turbos, such as Precision, ITS etc. They, used to sell Garrett turbos until Garrett dropped them. So for a while they had to buy higher price Garrett and use other kinds of no name turbos which only made their business go down the drain. They came to terms with BW and launched the GTK Line as a marketing strategy. It's the S Line of Borg Werner turbos with different housings and their twist of lime.

The info is all over the internet. I don't remember where I got it but you can research it yourself and find the info.

Personally I have not used them. The feedback I've recieve on them has been that you can spool a larger turbo quicker than its Garrett counterpart.
there is a thread on Supraforums in the Florida section where one of our local shops ran tests on these. The results was a tad better such as quicker spool and more HP per lbs.

I saw that thread - it didnt really seem to go anywhere last time I checked in 2007. Did they do any real tests for a gt42 vs a BW wheel of the same size?

i am glad someone did this thread, i have been looking at getting the GTK550 or GTK650 turbo but couldn't find much info comparing them. i was trying to find some information on how they compare to another of a comparable size and trim.

Thats some interesting stuff. I guess you learn something new everytday. Do you know if the use the BW stuff on all the turbos or just the GTK series? I was under the impression that Turbonetics was making there own stuff now. Do you know if the GTK's are using the extended tip wheels?

to My knowledge Just on the GTK.
As for the extended tips, your guess is as good as mine.

GTK's are using extended tips, so I have been told once again, also have people saying they use BW wheels and some saying they don't. But I am positive that they are using extended tips.

I can't find info on them being BW. It was all over the place when they first came out and now I can't find it nowhere. I guess they don't want people saying it's BW.

Can I ask what is your opinion of the gtk series of turbonetics turbos? They do have the "no fault" 1 year warranty which is attractive and should be taken into consideration I think. Others have told me that they will spool faster than their garrett counterpart but still that is just hear-say I just don't have anything "concrete" about them.

May just go with the tried and proven gt3582r.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I would just go with a standard journal bearing turbo. The spoolup characteristics are marginal and you can rebuild a journal bearing. Plus, they are much less expensive.

The GTK's can be rebuilt easily(according to Turbonetics) and I think they have the 1 year warranty.
