Did an upgrade to one of my AR's - this carbine is a bit of a mutt. It's my primary practice shooter; same weapon me and Dunckel shot at the gun club a couple weeks ago. Here's it's specs:

- Colt SP-1 lower with Magpul MOE grip/stock, Magpul enhanced trigger guard, 5 position Vltor buffer tube, carbine configuration
- Colt A2 upper with Colt M4 profile chrome lined 1-7 twist barrel, Magpul OD forearm, old school LaFrance flash hider, Colt completely chromed bolt/carrier, tactical latch charging handle

The upper/lower, buffer tube, and delta ring were Cerakoted mil-spec OD. Barrel, flash hider, sights, and operating controls were coated ACU grey-green. Came out nice...looks better than in the pics.

I can't really speak for pistols too much, but most of my rifles have been used and i've never had an issue. However, pistols tend to take a bit more abuse than rifles do, so you need to be careful.

The major benefit of buying used aside from cost is that everything is going to be nice and broken in for you. firearms shoot better after they've broken in, and the trigger and action usually are much slicker after a few hundred/thousand rounds through them. I'd watch out for any "grittiness" in the action or obvious signs of dangerous wear or abuse on any used firearm, and always make sure they've been checked over by a good gunsmith. Though, XD-45s haven't been around that long, so any used ones aren't likely to have been beat to death.

My father picked up a couple of new toys the other day.
sm_photo_missing.jpg

Springfield Armory M1A Super Match and Ruger Mini 14 Ranch. I went and broke them in yesterday and they are both very fun! :D

Had a few problems with the m1a hanging up not ejecting shells but hopefully it will be fixed next time by a good cleaning. Hopefully it isn't the ammo but I'm going to try some different stuff too. I used Winchester 7.62 147gr FMJ.

I plan to get scopes for both rifles. The one I have picked out for the m1a is the SWFA SS 10 x 42 Tactical with side focus. Not sure what I will get for the mini yet.

I have an M1A...fully tricked (glass bedded, tuned trigger, etc, etc) with all USGI internals on a Springfield receiver and match grade Winchester barrel. That ammo should not have caused an extraction failure. Did the shells remain in the chamber or did they partially extract/jam against the bolt?

Is this a new(er) production M1A? If so, it likely does not have the USGI (M-14) extractor, spring, and buffer...get them. Also check the ops rod for clearance to the bolt, the gas piston/spring...clean the piston and cylinder. I have a Ti coated piston...it's a worthwhile upgrade.

I have a Leatherwood ARTS IV scope on my M1A....I ahve not personally used the SWFA SS scopes, but the reviews are good. Suggest this mount (ARMS #18):

where can i get some .22lr cci stinger ammo at a good price and their not sold out?

whats a good 45acp round?

Good luck finding any ammo at a reasonable price...it's getting better, but the shortage continues. These guys have the Winchester Wildcat:

Not as high a velocity as CCI Stinger (I actually prefer Winchester .22 ammo) and at $26 a brick, not too bad.

They also have American Eagle (Federal) 45ACP FMJ:

I've shot this ammo in my 10mm Glock and it functions great...a very good target round.

Is this a decent deal. A guy I know that works for me from time to time has one of these for sale. He wants seventy dollars for this this gun and a holster. It also comes with about one hundred shells.
I don't really NEEED the gun, but it seems like a good deal. He's only had it for two months. I already have a small Keltek .380 that I carry in my back pocket. I also have a .44 special that I keep on my nightstand when it's bed time. Just thought I'd ask.

A hi-point is after all something that goes bang. Other than that, I wouldn't trust it to save my life or protect one.

For $70? Id almost be tempted. Ive seen these 40 cal Hi-Points go for only $200 new....

I have the 9mm carbine from highpoint firearms. I've had it for a couple of years and it was several years old when I got it for free. Never had any problems out of it. I just clean it every time i go shooting.

Gun is only $189 retail, which sounds like you're getting a good deal based just upon the numbers.

However have have zero experience with Hi-Point firearms. Guns that are that cheap (under $300 for a semi-auto) worry me. I've rarely seen good quality in that price range, however it's not 100% unheard of.

Shooting times has good things to say about them:

Thanks for the link Mike. That was a pretty impressive writeup. It's definately not one of the more expensive guns and I don't need it, but I'll be buying it tomorrow if I can meet up with him. Three pistols has got to be better than two.

All i can say is you guys are damn lucky to have access to the firearms that are listed in this thread. They took away most of our gun rights here in Aus and left us with nothing. Now people just stab you with a dirty syringe instead of a clean bullet hole. Please keep the cool picks of your firearms coming, there are some of us out there that now have to live vicariously through others adventures.

Fixed that for ya... Sorry, you people did it to yourselves, just as my fellow countrymen are trying to do it to themselves. You can only lose rights that you allow people to take from you. You had the means to defend your rights. You allowed someone to tell you that you had to hand it over, and you did.

... From my cold dead fingers, and I mean it ...
