I don't know if it's been discussed already, but could you just buy a targa top (like the actual roof peice) and just weld in the metal skin from the targa. I don't know how big the sunroof is or if it would would even work but I'd check into that. Certainly sounds easier than cutting a roof off a HT.

I would also back up getting a complete roof and just changing the skin only the trick will be removing the front glass. even if you were to weld in a section of the roof welding that large of a piece of metal and getting it to look right and not warp when welding in PITA. Replacing it would be very difficult just find one in the yard and bring a couple sawzaw cordless batteries the pillars are very thick and layers & layers of sheet metal that 4000LB in tank metal isnt just in the bottom part or frame of the car. Its a unibody & extremely rigid in hard top form it will take a while to naw through the A & B pillar the C isnt so bad though I know because i sectioned my car into pieces and threw it away in the recycle bin.

Long story i had to transfer to a donar body because a terrible driver took my original pride and joy out.

I hadn't considered that. Pretty good idea if it would work. Cutting the roof off is a huge task.

My brother and I chopped the top on a '32 5 window coupe when we were kids. It was difficult and time consuming to get it right. I don't see this job as being a whole lot easier, even though I won't be sectioning out a piece (or cutting the roof into 4 sections for that matter).
