I have decided to post a few notes and pictures of my "in no hurry" build up. My car will remain as Motor Trend coined it, Muscle Meets Manners. That isn't to say someday I go for a bigger than CT flanged turbo. Time will tell.
I started with the HKS off road down pipe. It is a 75mm pipe, with a flex section, and catless. There are better pipes, but this one is cheap. Unlike everything else from HK$. As you know, it does not come with an integrated elbow.
In between hot rod parts is necessary maintenance. The turbo runs hot under that hood. There are many hoses that have gotten hard. So I will be replacing them. One was the accordian pipe.
At SILV 06, my car got hot. I thought I was going to be like some of you and cause a failure. I got lucky. More on that in a minute. I had the car in storage for the most part since I got it. The fan clutch was soft and old, I blew the heater hose, and the radiator cap came apart. All on the trip. I had had the temp needle 3/4 to 4/5 up the guage. I thought I would lose the gasket. The head and block being dissimliar metals will bend irregularly. Like a circuit breaker. That is one of the reasons over heating compromises the cylinder. But I didn't and couldn't figure out why. Tonight I did.
I devolped an exhaust leak near the head. I had to start it cold and feel around. Worse case scenario. The manifold gasket busted a nut at the rear. So I get to pull it all apart. As long as I am in there, I will do some cleaning with WD40 and a tooth brush. What I discover was suprsing but good. A previous owner, probably the first, installed a metal head gasket. :biglaugh:
You can see it in the mirror. You can also see my nice shiny coolant pipes. :icon_bigg I will be cleaning that block more. I also will dump the factory remote filter for a relocated filter and full flow temp controlled cooler.
And of course the remote mount is going the way of the donkey.
Perma cool 10695, Perma cool thermostat-180 degrees, B& M Super cooler, about the size of the stock oil cooler.
As long as I have the car partially apart, I did some more. I picked up the Lex replica from Supra Sport. Nice piece. Since my accordian hose is new, it fit right on.
