this is one thing that fasanates me is why do we have the hole in block where the j tube goes? its been bugging me since my 5m had the same setup. after a few beers on my old blown block we got looking at it, and it almost looks like a spot for a mechanical fuel pump, much like one a carb'd 22r (in shape, i know the 22r pump is on the head)

does anyone know why its there??

Yep, you're right ;)

It's part of the M engine design that was kept. Oil pump drive shaft would have a cam on it to drive the pump, IIRC some of the shafts have the cam, dunno if it was on the 7M though.

Never could understand spending money on a block off plate when you can easily drill the spot welds and pop the tube off the plate for free.

7M's still have the cam on the aux shaft, I machined mine off.

Also got bored and CNC'd my own blockoff plates :)
