Yeah, if you worked on it. They'll have like ten cars pulled in there. Instead of starting one and finishing it, they play musical cars. They work on each one for like an hour and move on to the next one. Insanely stupid. I didn't know any of this until after I had dropped my car off. I'll know better next time........lol

I was told that they wouldn't take responsibility for a turbo'd motor. If the motor had a turbo on it, they wouldn't work on it. I was told that by about five shops here around the birmingam area. Didn't really give a reason why, it was like we don't work on them, end of conversation. I will definately do my own next time. It's just hard to do a rebuild with no garage or place to keep parts so that you don't lose them...............lol

Wow, that sucks. I wish people could somehow get ahold of members on the boards who have done multiple engine swaps int their Supras and would be willing to do it for a more reasonable price. I mean, 6 months to do an engine swap? I'm with justanothervictim (sorry), 2 days (provided I had all the parts) wouldn't really be a stretch. Maybe 3 days if you wanted to replace all the gaskets/seals.

Sure members wouldn't be able to offer a 3 year unlimited mile warranty, but most members who can't do the swap themselves just want a JDM engine put back in their car so they can get it back out and enjoy it. That being said, they're probably younger, working after school, trying to make ends meet, and can't afford $1,000 for an engine and another $1000 or w/e to get it in and back to running. I know I would be more than happy to do a swap for less than half of that and, if you gave me the parts, put down 4 day MAX in writing.

But back to the story, How were the hoses hooked back up again? Trans to the oil cooler and the oil going through the rad?

I have never had a good experience with mechanics. I do all my own work now. If I havent done it before, I learn about it. If I don't have the tools, I buy them. I figure I can pay up to 2-3x what I would pay someone else to do it if I must on tools, and I'll have the equipment to do it again if I have to (so it should pay off in the long run), and know it's done right. Hell, I won't even take my car in for tires. I just show up with rims in hand.

I'm going to butt in with what might be a really ignorant statement, so let me know where I'm off the mark. I just don't get the "need to have a shop with lots of Supra experience" concept or a shop that won't work on a Supra for that matter.

I agree with you there. All you really need is a reputable shop that pays close attention to details. Do you homework and ask around.

Shops that don't wanna work on a turbo car is just plain stupid. Maybe they've had bad luck in the past. They'd fix a car and it's fine leaving their shop. Customer drives off, cranks the boost, dogs on it until the motor fails, removes the boost controller and brings it back to the shop and blames them. And you know that happens alot!

As for the musical cars they play there is a reason for that. Sometimes they're waiting on parts for a car, so the move on to the next one and start that one. No sense in waiting for a specail order part that'll be there in three days and not work on another car. Time is money. If you ran a shop I'm sure you wouldn't have couple of your mechanics sitting around waiting for all the parts to complete one car. You might as well only accept one car at a time. Otherwise you'd just piss off other customers taking forever to fix their car. What would you tell them, "Sorry but I haven't got to your car cause I'm still waiting on parts for this other customers car." I'm sure they'd understand.

I'm with you. I've never had a good experience with even reputible mechanics. I do all of my own work, and like you If I don't know how to do it or never have. I learn how to do it and as someone mentioned on this thread 5-10 mins. with the TSRM should be able to do any job the right way.

Also I've seen those threads(5543662 times) Whats the cheapest upgrades I can do.

Fast and Reliable don't come cheap.

No job is worth doing if you don't do it right.

Come on guys, don't hate me cause I paid someone else to put in a motor for me. I said I learned my lesson and would never do it again. I take an oath right now. I Suprahero, being of sound mind, do solemnly swear that I will NEVER let another person work on my car other than me..................:x:

I had my fingers crossed just in case something extreme happens someday. I was just kidding about you hating me. I'm way too nice a guy for everyone to hate me......................;)

MKIISupraman. The transmission lines were hooked up to the oil cooler. I'd have to get back under there to see where the oil cooler line was going. I have it all fixed now and couldn't be happier. I have two supras and their both running perfectly with no check engine light on..................:eek3dance
