The death of a Jeep

I don't know if anyone will find this amusing, interesting, or completly moronic, but here's what we do in Arkansas for fun. (Cliffs at bottom)
So, I happen to live in a southern state where there is nothing to do on a friday night, so what did my friends and I decide to do...we decided to go off roading on the local mountain (Chenal Mt. for those in Little Rock). Oh, by the way, this was at 7:30 at night, there was no light (mistake #1). My friend gets his jeep cherokee and we set out, GPS navigator and a half tank of gas.
All is going well, except for the part where he is beating the hell out of his car, until we come upon a rocky creek bed and have to turn around (By this time, we were a good ten miles into the woods). His jeep starts knocking (sounds like a small man trying to escape from the engine block with a hammer). Having bought a supra with the same exact problem, I knew exactly what the sound was, but my buddie insisted that it normally does it so we ventured on (Mistake #2). The truck starts to die because of the knocking, but we are finally able almost make it to the main road. Only problem was that there were several large trees blocking our exit. Being extremely smart, my buddy hooks the truck up to the trees with a chain (Mistake # 3) and pulls them out of the way (knocking gets worse, nothing like puting load on a dying engine). We were home free until...
There was a hill that went down at at least a 70 degree angle that we had to go down. My smart friend decides to venture down this hill straight(mistake # 4) and you guessed it, gets his bumper stuck in the mud and his front tires off the ground...now we were really screwed. The oil went to the front of the pan, and the engine was toast. He tries cranking it multiple times and when it finally fires for the last time, he reves it and seizes the engine (mistake # 5). We were super fucked now, since we had at least a 10 mile walk back to the city.
Funny thing is, when you need technology, it is never there for you. Three cell phones had no service, the gps was dead, and there wasn't anyone for miles around. Time to walk (the friend that was driving had been smart and wore open toed sandals).
After walking for about an hour, we were finally able to flag down someone, who was ironically driving a jeep, to give us a ride back to the city, will will call Jim Jim Bob Jr. This guy was baked out of his mind and was just out driving listening to his radio. He had an extremely thick country accent and an even stranger taste in music (rap music+a good ol boy=:aigo: ). He got us back to the nearest wal-mart (thank god deliverence did not happen). From there my friend whose car it was called for help, and I called for a ride home.
Moral of this little escapade, keep oil in your car, don't 4-wheel at night, and get a cell phone service provider that is truly nation wide. Man i wish i lived somewhere where there was something to do.

cliffs: seized up a jeep's engine 4 wheel driving, had to walk for a long ass time in the cold, and finally got a ride back from a good-ol-boy.

sorry but ive got to disagree with your "dont wheel at night" I got wheelin through the night and ive never had a incedent like this, and we go upwards of 40 miles into the bush. Notice how i said WE, never wheel alone, golden rule. Something happens, there is another truck there to drive you back, pull you out, ect. Everything eles i agree with. Being ready for anything is key. If theres a tree in the way, pull out a chain saw.

I wheel at night all the time, and yes try not to go alone. It sucks getting stuck and then having to try and track someone down to come pull you out.

That would be great, but I have way to much stuff I need to spend money on before the truck would do something like that.
