WOW...you got really lucky. That car is far cleaner than mine! And mine has 211,000k miles :aigo:.

and I haven't even started to clean it yet... :evil2:

Original paint?

No, one repaint a year ago. The paint looks great for the most part, but a few spots that chipped make the paint seem soft and weak. :dunno:

I've noticed in the last day of driving that there's a lot of tranny whine in 2nd 3rd and 5th. 4th is incredibly silent. Is that a common thing with the supras? As soon as I step on the gas in those gears around 2-3k rpms, it sounds like I'm in a race car with that whine.

Well, it's black and it does look nice. So I have no complaints.

Holy shit.... I never thought I'd hear that from this kid. ;) Although I'm sure if it was pre-89, he'd be condemning the car to hell. :)

Thanks for the compliment, or i guess the lack of a dis... :D

hmmm....I dunno as my exhaust drowns any whine out...

I'd be changing ALL the fluids...

redline MT-90 for the tranny, ford gear oil for the diff with a bottle of friction modifier, pennsoil platinum for the engine, toyota red coolant (which I see you've already done), and flush and replace the power steering fluid and brake fluid...

and did I mention to tighten your subframe bolts?

Yes, yes yes, ok fine. I guess I'll do the subframe bolts... :)

I'll be doing a whole days worth of maintenance this weekend, hopefully getting to all this stuff and then some.

I cleaned the windows, took 30 mins. They were awful. Changed taillights... 4 were out. Changed wipers, interior bulbs, and rounded up the materials for the oil change.... then I ran out of time. :D

Repaint is cheating! In that case, I retract my previous statement. :D <jk>

Not normal...your W58 is probably quite tired and worn out after 271k miles...

Damn right he would! And Joe isn't a kid...lol.

Also, poodles is totally right about the subframe bolts...they work their way loose over time, and lead to cracking of the subframe...go make sure yours are very tight, before you have a cracked subframe like me...:(.

...hopefully you don't already...:icon_conf

That's odd.

Anywho....

Anyone know what exactly trips the door sensors to send the signa; that they are open or closed?

My passenger side door is very sensitive. I.E. when I take a hard right, the warning indicators go off. I think the latch is worn, not holding the door tightly enough. But I'm hoping I can do something minor to hold me over until I can get a new latch.

How are the signals sent? I see a swinging lever, but I press it and nothing happens.

Also, anyone have an extra upper hatch molding? I dont have one. :(

IIRC, the driver and passenger door sensors are push button style and they're covered with little rubber boots. Is the door lining up properly when closed?

The upper hatch molding you may just want to buy new withe new clips, most that I've seen these days are all chipped and dried out.

Really? Damn. 100 bucks. It'll have to wait. How exactly is the rear window wiper squirter supposed to be set up? I just have an elbow with nothing on the end. :(

Well, if you just want to get something on there for now, try that salvage yard I told you about.

The washer has a nozzle which mounts in the upper trim piece. ;)

Mine is high mileage - 227k These pics were taken prior to the engine being pulled for a 2J swap. As long as it was taken care of, it doesnt matter. I have seen cars with half the mileage of mine that are not nearly as clean. I would love to have found that black targa you have.

The car is on an inclined driveway. On flat ground, it has a better stance.

Trim molding has been removed for the swap

Thanks guys!!

It's nice to hear some positives between going to work and hearing... "You just bought a 17 year old car!!! And how many miles does it have?!?! What's a Supra? Is that the fast and the furious car?"

Some people just dont have a clue. :D

Chris,
I think this is the first time I have seen a pic of your car. It is very nice. Also, your old mani looks great in my car. Jim

If i had another 2 grand I would have been interested, but I'd like to try my luck with an N/A first. If that goes well I'll have to upgrade eventually :evil2:
