I seem to have the exact same issue. When mine does the miss, it goes from 14 to over 17 sometimes 18. I don't mean to steal your thread, but, if people see that more then one of us are having the same problem, then maybe someone will chime in with some help.

91supra i know you right? not in person but from another site? and there are actually alot of threads with people talking about it but they all stop right before the solution...its like people figured it out and just quit posting....it could be a slight lean miss but im pretty well stock so im not sure thats it....i dont have a wideband so cant say what my readings are...but for me its fine when i first get to a light but the longer i sit it gets more and more frequent and harder...sometimes it will do it and sometimes not....ive already grounded the ignitor and COP conversion...thoughts?

For those who have this "bump miss", is it worse on a hot restart? Mine idles like CRAP on a hot restart for the first 10-20 seconds and I've been trying to figure out why for a while now. My wideband reads extremely lean during this episode too.

assuming you are talking about a slight miss at idle.

I can make this appear and disappear at will with the aem. It is associated with idle AFR. The leaner you go, the more missing. 13.1:1 and it is completely gone on my car. My ignition system is completely new (DH61 igniter, new IS300 coils and wires). Solutions to this problem (not yet tried by me) include reducing plug gap, (obviously) reducing idle AFR, and/or new injectors with a better flow pattern (though the latter may not have any effect as at idle I inject on to the valve backs instead of into the cylinder.

Yes Jared you know me. This is Jim. I'm glad the COP is working for you.

Mine runs like shit as far as this bumping lean when the car is warm. Under low throttle, the AEM is showing off the charts lean. I give it a bit more gas and it starts going back to around 14.

I have brand new plugs, wires, 550 injectors, and whatever else is listed in my sig block. I have a SAFC NEO, but Aaron over at DriftMotion said that the NEO will not eliminate the problem. Before the car is warmed up it is running around 12-13 on the wideband.

i thought that was you jim...yes the COP is sweet and running great.....mine will just do when it wants too...never when cold but it will do it at one stop light but not the next.....i had an oldschooler tell me he though my plugs looked like i was running just a tiny bit lean....i have already pulled my gap down to .028 and one heat range cooler....i do run the autolight coppers though....do you think going back to the platnums with the COPs would help

I had the same problems as a lot of you guys with common mods. This is some of the things I found during the tuning and figuring out the 7M.

The hot start issue that was happening for the first 10-20 seconds was the AFM electronics failing.

The miss at idle was associated with the lex afm/550's. Turning the adjustment screw in on the AFM made the idle better and turning it out made it worse.

Adding more grounds to the engine and doing the igniter ground mod helped with the miss also.

Running NGK coppers gapped down .028" seemed to help the overall running condition and cured my miss at WOT.

hope this helps some of you guys but it prob wont solve all your issues since it is a 7M.. took me a long time to get things working right.

I would agree with most of that, except I don't have an AFM. I am going to check on the ground mod though.

@ jrot - you will never catch me running autolite in my baby. NGK or death...lol. Unless someday I can afford HKS plugs......Can you say expensive???

Good to know; I had actually suspected the AFM electronics (specifically the temp sensor) after doing some reading. Maybe the heatsoak from sitting would make it worse and the intake air would only cool things down after 10-20 seconds. I'll know if it was the AFM soon because next on my list is speed density via Maft Pro :naughty:.

the autolites run best in mine...i was wearing through the ngks in all different materials...went to the autolights and have no issues with that now....i would rather not use them but i gotta go with what makes the motor happy the longest

no it was better though....i was going through the plats about once a month

Is your 7M modified? A little ping and tripping the det senor kills plugs fast. I went through maybe 3 sets of plugs in about 2 months before figuring it out. At 12psi it was fine. If I ran 14psi+ I just put 20L of C12 race fuel in on a full tank and had no problems with ping or killing plugs.
