The best spot to install a turbo oil drain on a 2JZ-GE pan...

Ok, I have asked several people and have gotten several answers, so I figured I'd throw it to the wolves and see what survives.

I need to install a turbo oil drain bung for my turbo oil line on the 2jzge I am putting in my mkiii. The turbo drain will go straight down to the pan, but once it is there, where to put the bung? Some say on the side of the upper pan. Some say on the side of the lower pan. Some say avoid the bottom half of the lower pan and put it in the side of the lower pan closer to where it connects to the upper pan.

I like the last idea since it keeps it higher up and out of the deepest section of oil. It would allow it to drain well, even if the oil level happens to be a little farther up. Plus, the oil pan itself is not pressurized, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. Not to mention it keeps me from having to re-seal the upper pan since I got it on perfectly after the first time I took it off.

Feel free to throw in your .02 :1zhelp: I need to get this welded tomorrow morning/friday morning so I can have the engine in this weekend.

So far as I can remember, the upper pan is where it needs to be because the oil needs to drain out, and if it's under the oil level it won't drain effectively.

This is from memory mind you, but someone's build thread talked about putting it in the upper pan pretty easily without unsealing it from the block as you can drop the lower pan and clean any shavings out.

**EDIT**

When I first looked at the block (in a darkened garage), I could only find a pre-set spot on the intake side of the motor. Then after reading fletch's thread, I now see the spot where it needs to go on the exhaust side

Well, at least now I know where it is located :sarcasm:

Thanks Fletch, I didn't look hard enough the first time :biglaugh:

x3 :) You can also do it the ghetto way and leave the upper pan on. Just don't do what I did and snag the rag you're using to catch shavings with the drill and end up flinging them all over the bottomside of the motor lol. 2 cans of brake cleaner fixed that up tho and I'm at about 3k miles with no issues...

Hmm, I don't have a tap set, but I guess I can get one. I don't have enough time now to get it welded.

So I saw the forecast for this weekend... I don't care if I have to put up a damn tarp, THAT MOTOR IS GOING IN!
