Test run engine stand

I want to make sure all my replaced seals are good and set the timing before bolting up tranny and reinstalling in the car. I am not sure what exactly is needed to run it. I think the engine harness, ecu, radiator and fuel pump. After connecting the harness and getting power to the ecu and fuel pump and a switch for the starter I am not sure what else is needed. Anybody know

Air, fuel, spark? Sounds like you have all your ducks in a row to me... Really don't even need the radiator if it is just a test run, just don't run it too long. ;)

Just don't forget pieces usually left under the hood, like the injector resistors, ignitor, etc.

I don't like the idea of leaving the cooling system dry. The 7M has enough issues there that I think that it's worth doing something to keep fluid in the system, though I might just use a piece of pipe from upper to lower radiator hose.

Also yeah, you need the bellhousing to hold the starter, you also need the flywheel/flexplate for the starter to engage with.

Thanks again I am going to run the radiator and I was forgetting the bits still bolted in the car. Trying to get all my ducks in a row before I actually rebuild the engine. Anything else I am forgetting and if I have everything together should I just break in the engine on the stand or return it to the car first

If you've done it all correctly, testing on a stand isn't necessary. Hell, I'd go so far as to say it would take more time than just dropping it in the car...

Agreed, the time to set all this up and pull the necessary things to make it run on a stand, you could just drop it and run it.

I'm with these guys, unless you have spare electronics that are normally bolted to the car to use for testing purposes...

For the most part, yeah. Only really hard one I can think of is the banjo bolt at the back of the head.

I have already stripped almost everything out the the car. Only thing left are the engine harness and igniter. I don't personally have an engine hoist or lift. Borrowed one to get the motor out. Would rather find out that for some reason I did something wrong and have like the rear main seal leak oil. Then I am back to pulling the motor and tranny to fix it. Also is it possible to pull the front subframe bolt the engine to that so I can test run.

I don't see anything wrong with using a subframe from the car to hold it in place while test running it. Just make sure it can't go anywhere. ;)
