Ok, i just finished my clutch on my supra. I bought a SPEC performance clutch. So i took it out and i didn't nail it.. Well what would the Break In period consist of for the new clutch? Like Can u not nail it period? Or just not dump the clutch and any fast hard engagments? Now there's Chatter in the bellhousing when the clutch is not applied??!? and when applied the chatter stops. This is so annoying!

SPEC reccomends 500 miles of normal driving to break it in. Just take it easy until then.

So the clutch is making noise after the petal is fully released? It shouldnt do that, the only chatter that you should get is during engagement, and that will diminish as the cluch breaks in. Are you sure everything is tight? Did you replace the throw out bearing when you did the clutch?

500 miles, and not a 500 mile road trip. You're suppose to change gears alot of times to get it to break in. If you've already got on it, you may have glazed it over.

well i used my original bearing since the aftermarket bearing wouldn't work AT ALL. My bearing i'm using was good, I had a Toyota Master Tech tell me this, as well as he said i shouldn't use the aftermarket bearing, use stock. Could i adjust my freeplay To get it to where the throwout bearing won't touch the pressure plate? That way i don't have to pull the Mother Fuc*er apart?

I dont know much about the spec clutches for the supras but the LS spec clutches are junk. They are only about 30 miles form me but I would never buy a spec. Hopefully this isnt the case though. Good luck with your problem

I pulled it apart tonight, I pulled the transmission and everything looks fine. The pressure plate splines are all aligned and everything looks fine. Could a messed up Throw bearing cause alot of clanking with the clutch depressed? Everything is brand new except the throw bearing, Should i use the one that came with the kit? Or go and get a brand new OEM throwout bearing?

It's the same principle as glazing new brake pads. They still work, but not propperly and they squeal.

So If it can mess up brake pads imagine what it could do to a clutch plate.

Yes the chatter should go away as you brake the clutch in.

It's really loud, Like when i rev it at idle it Chatters really loud, Almost sounds like a horrible rod knock, But when i put the clutch in the engine Revs quieter, but there is still a little clanking in the bellhousing. The car runs and shifted fine, But the pedal seemed to feel a little spongy after 60 miles of driving, Like it softened up and engagment wasn't as nice. I'm gonna buy a new Throwout bearing, But should i get a brand new stock bearing? Is anyone using a stock bearing on an Aftermarket clutch kit?

Dang, I hope my clutch isn't glazed over.. that would suck. I don't want to have to replace it again. So once it's glazed, thats it? There is no going back? Is there any way to tell while I'm still in the breakin period? I know flooring it would tell me verryy quickly LOL, but I'm not about to do that.

I'm worried because I was driving the first night I put the clutch in, throttle stuck open, clutch slipped :( I hope this doesn't cost me.

I come from a land down under
A couple of times in the past when I've glazed one up I've pulled it chucked it up in the lathe and broken the surface with some 240 wet/dry sandpaper.

Do the same with the FW and PP and it's good to go.

Thanks IJ, guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Now I just need a lathe ;)

Some machine shops may be able to resurface the pressure plate. Most Any machine shop will resurface the Flywheel, And that will make both surfaces smooth, shiny, and spotless. If you have an O'reilly Auto Parts in you area they do an excellent job and include a warranty if it cracks after or during the resurface, Get it done Somewhere Reputable, and that will refund your money, in the case, that the flywheel will not be able to be reused.

I FOUND OUT WHAT IT WAS! IT WAS THE FLYWHEEL BOLTS, THEY LOOSENED UP.... And that's what it sounds like! I torqued them to 55 lb. ft. like in the Manual.... This time i Torqued them to 65 ft. lbs. JUST TO BE SURE, OMG I'M SO HAPPY!
