my 1988 supra turbo has the TEMS system and it still works but the car has 143000 miles on it and the springs and struts are shot i have been told if i use aftermarket parts it will disarm it and i want to keep it functional and stock i have been told even though the TEMS works i still have to replace the entire system i seem to be having a problem buying the system do they still make it and how much might it cost?i am new to the TEMS scene and could use some help thanks

Tokico Illumina II struts are TEMS compatible at about $110 a piece and you can use whatever springs you want. I've got the Tokico's and will upgrade to Eibach lowering springs sometime in the next year or two.
I have the Illumina IIs and The Eibach Pro Kit on my car... Right now Im hoping to figure out what is going on with that as my car hasnt felt right since I changed my rims. It just feels 'floaty' whats worse is the front end DROPPED. My front lip is toast... The rear is still higher than the front but another supra owner told me it would settle in.
Take the advice I was too hardheaded to take: Drop the TEMS and get a good set of springs and shocks. Use the money you save by NOT buying the TEMS shocks to buy another upgrade. The TEMS shocks feel cool switching from normal to sport (you can feel it) but I would rather have a nice stiff set of shocks.

i disagree. i daily drive my car and i like the ability that tems give me that i can actually feel when i switch. i am going to eventually lose tems when i go to a tien edfc setup.
for most people i would keep tems and check your adjustments. if you rotate the top some you can stiffen up the suspension. i havent heard of a "floaty" front end really with the eibachs and illuminas.

I was thinking about this route, but my orginal suspension was shot, so I didnt know weither or not the TEMS would work, so instead of risking it, I just got some TIEN SSs. I enjoy them alot more than anything TEMS related. but then again, I really didnt know what TEMS felt like to much cause of my crappy orginal suspension.

I've heard that tokico's aren't a very well made brand of shock and many ppl have problems with them blowing out and having to get a new one.

No they arnt made anymore. These came off of a 90's Supra Race car. I got em at a Local meet along with some HKS TEMS buttons. Ive seen em on ebay for 900~$. I got the HKS buttons and shorks +springs for 240 -_-
I think that company should rename thereselves to HK$, as just about anything made by them costs big $$$. I'm not knockin them for that though, I have several HKS parts and they are all top notch stuff. Suspension wise, try something cost effective: KYB's and RS-R sport or racing springs depending on your preference.
sorry i haven't replied been busy thanks for all the input i did find the factory springs and shock absorbers on discount toyota parts its gonna set me back though for 4 springs and 4 shock absorbers it cost $930.00

I have Tokico TEMS with eibacks.
Now I have not put any amount of miles on them like 500, but I really like the adjustable suspension.
Set on normal it is quite soft and absorbs bumps nicely, yet come around a corner and jam on the brakes and they auto switch to firm and the nose stays nice and doesnt bounce. I love that.
You need to be careful as you install the struts with the springs to get them all lined up, and the strut tops on right so the struts are all installed so that the struts are on the same setting. ie the if you put them in turned around one strut might be on firm while the other is on normal. The Tokicos top adjusting piece just spins around but changes the valveing inside the strut.
I have heard about the problems with the struts blowing our quickly, I think that was early models not the ones made today. You must be carefull installing the struts and never use anything like plyers on the smoth shiny piston rod part or they will fail. Install them right and they are a nice ride.
Now I have also heard that true coil-overs kick ass on the tokico/eibach setup. The cost of the strut/spring is like $600. I would not pay 900 for toyota parts as the car will still be way up in the air with the stock springs. If you can find coil-overs for something resonable that sounds like it may be a better way to go.

sorry for not addressing this sooner. if you look at the top of a tems motor you can see it has a little prong inside. this is what turn the inner valving on the suspension. it is possible by moving this cc and ccw to stiffen or soften said suspension.

Does this work for the stock shocks as well? I plan on going to one of the tein sets next year or so, but I'm stuck with my stock TEMS setup will then and I'd love to stiffen it up a bit.
Also, I've heard from a few guys that were running the Tokico/Eiback setup for TEMS that just didn't like the feel of them. Any input?
