temperture goes up and down...

so im haveing problems w/ my 7m. i had to change the heater core because it was pooched. so i changed it, now my truck temperture gauge goes up and down. it doesn't stay put it will for abit, then goes back up. i burp the system and change the thermostat. check the oil if i blew the HG, but thats ok. rad gets hot and the two hoses from the rad to block(top&bottom) all get fuild.

im not sure if my gauge is just being retarded. i just took it for a test drive like 30mins ago. and i was giving it hard ! but didnt blow a hose or HG.

7m is in a toyota 4runner.using 2 10" elec. fans.

any ideas ? im thinking about getting a new water temp gauge, and goin to burp the system again 2moro.

Are your fans on a temp. switch? Could be the temp. of the switch is too high, causing your fans to come on late.
Also, check that the radiator isn't plugged up.
Cut the jiggle valve off the t.stat, and clock the hole that's left straight up. Any air trapped behind it will find it's way out easier that way.

fans are on a temp switch. and a switch in the cab. so there always on no matter what unless i do some water crossing. rad shouldn't be plug as its brand new well 5 months ago. where is this jiggle valve off the t.stat ?

Burp it.

Raise the nose on an incline and pop the cap when it cools.
Shake the truck watch for tiny air bubbles to come out.

The more bubbles you burst combined with the longer you put up with the actual burp.
The more efficient your temp will be when done.

Especially after changing a heater core. Yikes.

Make sure that your head bolts are torqued properly,I had the same problem till i retorqued my head bolts to 75.good luck

can i just run the engine on flat ground ? well my drive is somewhat on an incline i'll try the burping again. i've posted on another board and they say my HG went. i really hope it isnt.

You can jack the front of the car up as it runs... because if you think about it, a car can run at a pretty steep incline. think... san francisco hills. haha. Dont be bashful, jack it up, and let it run with the cap off.

good idea..not really looking forward to working on my junk its dumping over here. in the last 2hrs we've gotten 3" of snow..man its goin to be cold.

so i let it run w/ the cap off wait for it to burp and see the bubbles and hope all is good correct ?

the nose has to be elevated to make the bubble rise up.

If the car is level the bubble will not move without kicking the engine over and over and over again.

so i rasied the nose of the truck.. ran the motor for a good 20mins. saw the bubbles,ran it until i didnt see anymore. took it for a drive and no more temperture going up and down. woohoo... i hope. thanks for the tips and advice guys !!

Good job on getting it fixed... I had a kid in one of my classes just the other day asking around about why his temperature gauge was going up and down after a coolant flush, and I butted in and said it was air...

He was quick to shoot that idea down, and said no way, it cant be that, I bled the system. Then I asked him if he burped it and he said yeah... I went ahead and said that he must not have raised his car high enough and then he was just stunned... he never raised his car at all, and even went on to say that raising the car would do nothing...

Conclusion.. my school is full of idiots.
