had a follow up question, I'm going with a digital read out and would like to know what acceptable ranges are for water temp. I heard 188 - 198*F is acceptable, but not sure, so figured i'd ask.

A suggestion, I tapped a temp sensor into the water heater core supply hose. If you can't get a spot on the water neck, this may be a secondary option for you.

176-212 degrees. any more or less and the ecu is taking action (pulling timing, increasing A/F mixture).

That said i have never seen over 190 degrees. thats with a 192 thermo (might be opening early) and a working fan shroud. usually sits right at 180-185 depending on driving conditions and outside temp.

I'm just about to install an aftermarket temp guage. I was planning on putting it in place of the stock guage in the cluster area. Is it a bad idea to take out the stock guage? I am not entirely sure how the ecu reads the temp and compensates.

i Got this temp gauge from pepboys[$19.99] i got tired of the old Stock one with no numbers!!

IF i understand correctly normal driving is *190 degree and overheating is *215 degree??
The installation manual sucks! So hopefully i did it right!
The Copper Tip is was goes in the waterneck hole replaceing the Stock Temp Sensor correct??

As for the red and black wire, im not 100% but i know the black wire is the Ground what about the red one ???

Since im gonna change the Thermostat i was wondering like [grim] said *192 is alil to low what would be the next best one??

My cooling system will at max read 200* under normal driving conditions and that's with over 100* weather. Anything else and its 194* on the dot all the time. I have a fluidyne radiator with no fan shroud and aftermarket gauge plumbed into t stat housing. Also... red wire should be power and of course black is ground. My stock gauge stopped working also;).

Actually i went with a 180* thermostat and it's fine. Like Jdub said i believe anything from 176-212 is what the ecu expects to read. Otherwise it takes action to get it into that range.

I come from a land down under
I've measured a 30c difference in head temp from the front to the back of an idling 7M so it's very important to get the sensor location correct, bottom of the rad isn't it...
