Temp warning sensor light comes on?!?

hey all

i have noticed that when i drive my supra sometimes the warning light for the temrature flashes on and off very quickly the goes away for about 10 mins the flashes back on and off..... any thoughts?

it dosnt do it with any sort of pattern..... sometimes when ideling sometimes when driving sometimes when hot and sometimes when i first start it up, it never over heats or even gets close to it.

its a stock JDM 7mgte around 5000kms ago i did the head gasket ( new stocker with arp studs torqued down) and water pump cambelt tensoiner and thermostat and thats when it started happening.

i have had other more pressing issue to fix untill now but there done now and this is annoying the hell out of me.

i had a quick look over the TSRM but to be honest with sensors and wiring and electronics i am lost

can someone tell me how to test the sensor? or any ideas much apprecated

There is not temp warning light.. The light next to the temp gauge is a overflow bottle level light.. It lights if the coolent level in the bottle gets to low... first thing to do is check the bottle when it comes on and see if it is low if it isn't, then its a problem with the sensor inside or a short in the wiring... If the level is not low and the light comes on, then unhook the wiring plug that comes off the sensor / bottle if the light stops comming on, the the problem is most likely the sensor and thus the whole bottle needs to be changed. If the light still comes on or stay on, then its a short in the wiring and you'll need to find the short and fix it..

put water in the overflow tank. its by the intercooler.

thats correct! if it does go on its usually the OFT is low.

i keep a very close eye on my fluid levels since the BHG and its defenatly no low, will try swaping tanks first as thats an easy fix, cheers!

Mine comes on once in a while if I corner very sharp the collant tends to slosh too.

the short or bad sensor is plausable to, only other reason would be if your losing coolant threw a bad hose or some other place or god forbid in the engine

Hey everyone problem solved, i just changed the whole bottle, went to the wreakers and got one for $5 put it in there and no more annoying warning light!

1) It's not an overflow, it's a reservoir.
2) Be absolutely certain that the sensor in the new reservoir is functional.
