Trying to figure this out.(?) What exactly do you like about it? Is it that it's usually obscene? Or is it that it denegrates women, and glorifies violence? Or, is it the way it shows just how stupid people can be, by purchasing...well, "CRAP"!???
Please explain.
Not all rap is like that, you know.

Is all rock about being a useless emo fag?

Smart enough, to not waste my time listening to something, that takes ZERO talent to produce!
Would rather be dubbed closed minded, thanks.

I'm with Anth505 all the way on this one! Rap...unequivocally, hands down, the worst "music" (term used lightly!) this planet has ever produced. I don't know what's worse? That people actually produce this crap? Or, that idiots actually waste money on it?!:aigo:

I never allowed it in my house when my son was growing up. Now, he's an adult, and can't stand it either!
Thank God for that!!!

Post note: That artist in his post has more talent in his pinky finger, than all the rap "artists", in the whole world!

You are very close minded, IMHO

Did you ban rock music from your house too? Be careful. Your kids might turn into the emo kill myself type if they're exposed to rock music too long. :stickpoke.

Quit listening to mainstream bullshit and maybe your opinion might change. Hey, who cares about all the artists who make songs and records about positive and uplifting topics. It only matters about the mainstream stuff that's in your face, right?

I find it really hard to believe someone could ban their children from an entire genre of music based on a small group of artists out of the whole.

It's called "responsible parenting". It wasn't just rap, but anything that caused a desensitizing of the garbage that the "gangsta" lifestyle promotes.
Besides, he really had no desire to listen to it anyways. I guess he just has exceptionable taste!

Good Analogy, just as rock didn't start that way, Rap didn't either.

Recent influx of the emo crap has given rock a bad name. None the less emo rock is there. Just as there is Rap that is worthless. Unfortunately because of it's popularity, the good to bad ratio is severely unbalanced leaning toward the bad. And sadly the majority of the crap preaches that is its acceptable to be uneducated, illiterate, and intolerant. And the music videos show that if you are these things then you will somehow be magically wealthy. Since the young population at large buys into these lies, and suddenly find they are not wealthy, they don't have girls and cars. And worse yet they don't have an education to go anywhere with.

In Rap there is really is talent and artistic ability, but it is heavily drowned out by the crap the mass-media at large shoves down your throat at every radio station, shopping center, and street corner.

So what else did you ban? Are you going to ban all rock music to protect your house from emo, goth, or satanic lifestyles? That rock music is pretty dangerous, you know.

Who are you to define what is good music? You don't really need to answer that. Your prejudice against rap/hip-hop music is already crystal clear.

Well put Dirgle. I just had to take a shot at the mainstream crap, and some of the unbelievable lyrics I hear coming out of kids stereo's these days.
I could never have rode around (when I was young) with the vulgar music blasting for all to hear. Just too embarassing.

Joe, your tune will change, if, and when, you become a parent. And, if it doesn't? Well, then I would say that you'll be just like a majority of parents now days.
You can read into that, whatever you like.
I guess I'm just too "old fashioned"!

Anything RJD2 produces(Blueprint, Aceyalone)
Lupe Fiasco
Talib Kweli

Check it. Lupe fiasco is bomb

What type of music did Eric Harris and Dilan Klebold listen to?

:)

Death rock, right? That too was verbotten in my house. It's definately about more than the music though. It's about boundries, and rules. Like them or not, I was/am the parent, i.e; "The boss"!

Does being a parent justify being irrational?

I pray to god I won't change to be like you where I feel a complete genre music should be banned from my house.

You could have said that you banned music that has profanity, derogatory terms, poor lifestyle influences, etc, which would include every genre out there. But you didn't. You said rap was banned. That's plain and simple bullshit.

Restricting musical taste is disgusting. I like you, but your rule seems like a dictatorship in your house(it is in reality, being the parent) Music is the ONE way I choose to express myself, at any time.

I remember as a kid, My mom wouldn't let me get a Korn CD I really wanted. I was about 13 or 14. One day I went and bought it anyways. Whens he found out, she was disappointed, but did it make me a manic murderer? No, It was just a different way to express myself. You block one way of expression, another opens up, and it may not be as innocent as music.
