So today im riding in my buddy Paul's truck with a couple of my other buddys. And so we are driving and come up to this intersection where Paul wants to turn right, the light is red, and there are cars crossing the intersection as we come up to it.

I notice Paul isn't slowing down at all for the redlight, so I ask him if he is going to stop, and get no response. Paul then proceeds to roll through the redlight and make his right hand turn, and almost hits a subaru which swervs into the opposite lane to avoid him.

I get somewhat angry at this behavior and ask him why he did that. First he says that he "didn't see any cars", to which I tell him that stopping at the redlight and looking might have avoided that situation. He then gets defensive and says that he had plenty enough room and that if it was really as bad as I said it was then they would have been in an accident.

At this point I get really pissed because this is the kind of stuff I just cant stand seeing people do on a daily basis. So I argue with him for like 30 mins about this, boggled by the fact that he is defending not stopping for a redlight when there are cars coming.

Finnaly he puts the cherry on top and comes out with this gem: "Come on dude, I see people do stuff like that all the time, what difference does it make if I drive safe if nobody else does?"

I know that trying to get the world's population to drive in a sane, and safe manner is almost impossible, but the face that he would just become part of that with no effort to drive well and safely just blew my mind, and I had to have him drop me off at my house because I just couldn't be a part of that anymore.

So tell me, am I crazy to have scolded him for going through a redlight without stopping and when there was traffic coming?

I'm sorry if its not very interesting, but I just need someone to tell me that I'm not the last person to drive safely on the roads.

He is supposed to stop. Right on red is the same as a Stop sign, not a yield sign. Your friend is a fuckin tool for driving like a dipshit. I hope I never meet him on the road. I can't stand people who cannot and will not try to improve the way they drive.

My new pissed off mode is people not using blinkers. I'm seriously getting to the point where I want to become an LEO just to hand out tickets. Cause its getting fuckin ridiculous.

I would have punched him in the face, taken his keys, thrown them into the gutter, and just to be an ass report him to the police.

More than likely, he will be run over by a large truck/suv. Many people have to learn the hard way, if they survive the process.

I have to ask, did he pay for his car? Or did Mommy and Daddy?

^ no blinker just means your not getting into my lane... provided noone else is in the car with me.

I would have been pissed if one of my 'friends' did something as stupid as that with me in the car. Doing stupid shit endangering others' lives just because 'other people do it' is the stupidest excuse I've heard. I'd be telling him that if he actually gave two shits about anyone, that would be the only time he'd pull a stunt like that. Next time it could be your mom/dad/sister/brother/grandparent/girlfriend/WTFE that isn't quick enough to get out of the lane safely, think about THAT the next time you rip into his ass for being a fucktard.

@supraman7mgte Yeah its legal here to make a right on red, but you have to stop first, and wait until its clear, basically like a stop sign.

@ms07s his car was given to him for free because his uncle was going to scrap it or something.

I even told him after the fact that if that guy wasn't paying attention he would have hit him, and it would have been my buddy's fault, I told him that he could have hurt that guy/himself/us, plus he would have his license suspended (because he only had it for 2 months) and have higher insurance rates for being in an accident. And his reply the whole way home was that since we didn't actually get in an accident none of what I said mattered.

By the way, as I was telling him this we switched seats and I was driving after the incident because he thought it would be some sort of punishment for me to drive to my house in his truck.

Shoot him. What an asshole.
:bigun2:

Your friend has the same kind of insane sensibility that I see from people that bolt out into crosswalks without looking. Ask them why and they reply "If a car hits me in a crosswalk then the driver is at fault and I sue him and get a nice fat paycheck."
I'd rather be healthy and poor than rich and dead. And they look at me like I'm an idiot.

He threatens your life, and you scold him. Then you ask if you're not crazy for letting him know he was unsafe with you in the car. I would have fucked him up sumtin fierce. I don't give a shit if I've known him since 2nd grade.
Being 18, I bet you his Mom is in her late 30's - early 40's. Dude you need to get some of that. At least that would make you feel better about him driving like an asshole with you in the car.

This is why there are so many dead teenagers from car accidents. They want to be treated like adults yet they still do childish things. They give the other ones that actually care a bad name. When I turned 18 and got my license I didn't do stupid shit like this.:3d_frown: You should have kicked him in the nuts and walked away.

Yeah I mean...they're not all bad, I'm only 19 myself.

Anyway though, I was real angry with him at the time but by the time we got home, I'd cooled down enough to walk away. I mean basically I see it as lesson learned on my part, don't ride with him until he cleans up his act. And I hope that he learned to be more cautious as well.

I guess I should have expected it though, him and his brother speed what I consider to be excessively (75 in a 55 most of the time, on a 2 lane back road). I'm sure you know the feeling, getting in the car with someone and they just hit the gas as hard as they can till they are speeding 20 over? But this was the first and last time I will ride with him till he pulls it together.

That is the main problem. He has yet to actualy earn it. Most teens who are given cars, reguardless of the type, cost, or condition, have no respect or understanding of how much work it costs to aquire one yourself. I refuse to give a child, and that is exactly what he is, a 2000+lb weapon and turn them loose. If he didn't learn that a rolling turn on a redlight is illegal he should not have a license. Explain to him the typical sentence for manslaughter, as that will likely be a future charge should he continue this path of thought.

My friend is this kind of dipshit, he's had his license longer than me and actually bought his own car but he'll run a red light while stoned and nearly kill 2 of my other friends. I've been driving a year and although I like to speed I know when and where (empty freeway at night that I know very well means I'll do a bit over the limit sometimes).

I was given my first car by my father for Christmas and although I don't think I "earned" it I appreciate what he gave me and do my best to look after it and that includes driving it as safely as I can (I've only had my license a year but covered 20k+ miles so I think I've got some experience now). I was helped out big time by a friend to get my Supra and appreciate that too because it's a nice car that I don't want anything to happen to.

Idiots that don't respect the road piss me off, if you don't respect a car it can kill you pretty easily, it's a weapon in the wrong hands, it's like having a gun. Give it to a responsible user and it's going to be safely used (on a gun range, hunting or whatever) but give it to a moron and it's going to do someone a serious injury or kill someone.
