so I'm pricing together a rebuild with eagle rods, probe pistons, clevit bearings, ect. Pretty much the whole bottom end.

As I was looking into it all I decided it would b a good time to upgrade the head since I'll b inside the engine anyway. I was looking at comp cams springs and ted 268 camshafts. What I was wondering is, is there any other upgrades I'll need to support the springs and cams? Retainers? Tedcomponents site says I'll need new shims, but I'm not sure if they sell those with them or not.

Is anyone running either/both of these and can give me some info on what they did?

Not a lot of info on the Ted 264 cams, but if the lift is less than 9mm you should be able to use the Comp Cam springs without binding. Over that lift or if you're planning to push RPM up in the 8000 range, I would use Ferrea's.

Here's the spring seat pressures for the various ones available:
Stock - 35 lbs
Comp Cams - 55 lbs
BC - 60 lbs
Ferrea - 67 lbs (dual spring)

The Comp springs are the best bang for the buck if you're running stock engine rpm IMO. And you can use the stock retainer, no problem. You will need 2 sets for the 7M head...the seats/lifters are a bit tight, but they will fit.

Depending on the duration and overlap on those cams, a set of adjustable cam gears is a good investment. Plus, you will be able to get an accurate cam degree for valve timing.

You will need new shims...no doubt about that.

After reading the various valve spring threads on various forums, I would do the BBC inner. Seems too easy.

If you plan on spinning this engine high, yes, you should upgrade everything in the valve train.

I agree...the Comp cam springs is a no brainer. Inexpensive, works really well, and on stock/aftermarket cams up to the 264's. Just do it ;)

i am going to be running virtually the same setup you are planning on doing except i have BC 264 cams and will be using comp cams springs as well. as said before you will need new shims. or have your machinest cut them down some which is time consuming and a huge PITA.

yea I plan to stay at stock rpms but I'd like the comfort of knowing my head can survive if I over-rev or anything. That and from what I've read I can gain some low end and spool the turbo faster.
