great looking car, if I would of had to put in new internals I would of bored it .20 over and put in new pistons making it a 3.2L but atleast you'll never have to worry about that bottom end again, did you just put in a oem headgasket or did you go metal? You don't need metal but if you plan to go over 400hp your going to have to rebuild the head later.

This is how we had it installed, so why would the starter be engaged with the ignition off? Starter is functionally fine and the gear kicks out like its supposed to..

And I would think there's only one way to attach the starter, directly through the starter plate on the back right?

OEM with ARP bolts, she won't see more than an intake and exhaust while I save for some a little less temperamental

I'm convinced dad's senile, took a look for myself after work and the starter sits in the correct position, flywheel components are where they should be etc.

The symptom was the car would make a loud click from the starter but not crank. Told dad I had read it was probably the wiring so he said he'd check and all he did was check for voltage on the terminal 50, but I'm convinced to try the starter relay mod.

With the machine work mentioned, I HOPE it has a MHG. As for having to rebuild the head for goals over 400hp....not necessarily true, quite a few guys on here are/were making well over 400hp with a stock head. Not being a smart ass, just saying.

Lol. It would take ALOT more than .020 to make it a 3.2. You'd have to go to about 86mm bore.

I was implying the piston's and then boring it big enough to increase displacement. guess I didn't type that up to well. is this thing MHG then?

It's an OEM gasket unfortunately. I was at school while the rebuild took place and dad took over operations and didn't see the need for the metal gasket.

Just about to roll over 500 miles on the motor, getting ready to switch from straight 30W rotella to a synthetic blend. No more leaks anywhere, water or oil, and got the AC charged! More stuff works than I thought haha now time to start saving to replace my settled/clunking suspension.

With the car done and on its 3rd oil change (running beautifully) and summer coming to an end, I picked up another project at the end of July for something more practical than the Toyota to get around at school.

Purchased locally for $125 lol

5000 mi on rebuild bye bye felpro headgasket

9-10+ psi (off the stock gauge) from the cold weather pushed it too hard

You blew the felpro? What was the torque on the headbolts?

False alarm, condensation in the exhaust was exaggerated by the cold weather and my disappearing coolant might be the water in/outlet at the turbo, which must be burning and making its usual frightening stank.

Arp bolts torqued to arp specs on what I assume is an oem hg.

No overheating, but the other symptoms (steamy exhaust, coolant loss, smell, occasional miss on startup) turned me into a hypochondriac for the last week.

While I'm updating, last month I picked up a full 3 inch exhaust with magnaflow muffler and hks style dp for $100 total, and just bought a ruined r154 to rebuild over break for a swap hopefully next summer!

Also either the builder didn't do a very good job on my valve stem seals or my fluttery bpv blew my turbo seals, she's been smoking (not like it matters now)
