Yes the helicoil's inside diameter will be the proper size....so yes you'll be drilling and taping a larger hole.

The tab is best broken with a quick blow....you may be able to use needle nose but do not pull on it...just twist it! But you need to do it fast...the kit comes with a punch made for breaking the tab off and if you notice it cones with 3 different lengths of coils so you can use one best suited for the job.

The spring loaded tool I have msc sells for $60....guess it's been awhile sense I've purchased one lol....but in all seriousness, a quick blow to the tab with the supplied punch will make quick work of that tab without deforming the heli-coil.

Re read your question....you're gonna need a very very skinny needle nose to install that helicoil! I know you don't want to spend much money but it's really best to use the proper tool to install these...the kit seems pricey but it's yours forever and it comes with the correct tools to do the job which are also yours forever.

Or take your motor appart to get the rear timing cover off then pay a machine shop $30 to coil it....your choice but whole lot of work!

I talked to my buddy that works at O'reilly over here, and I think they have the kits reasonably priced so instead of taking a shortcut and a risk, I'll probably just buy the kit. Great advice everyone, and I'll let you all know when I get the waterpump back on and my car back on the street. I gotta get some pics up here soon, or start a build thread. Take it e.z everyone

Well the water pump is secure and in place. All the bolts are holding torque, and no leaks so far. I finally got to drive my car after about 8 months only to find out the 3/4" hose that 90's from the fitting under the thermostat into the block had a big nasty split in it. That would appear to be the problem the whole time, but the experience of getting a broke bolt, e.z out, drilling and tapping a new hole and inserting a helicoil has been a great experience. Thanks for the help guys, yall take it e.z
