Taillight out light on dash does not go away?

I found the problem. One speaker wire was touching the body and once I removed that then the light stayed off when I pushed the brakes. Thanks again Eeryone.

I have a 87 Turbo Supra and the problem is that My taillight out light on the dash stays lit when their is no burnt out light bulbs. I have 2 yellow taillight failure boxes(both from a 87 Turbo Supra) and I changed it and it still has the same problem. The thing is that if I dont push the brake pedal the light will stay off but once I push it for about 2-3 seconds then it will stay lit. Anyone know a answer for this problem? Thanks.

did you try pushing the brakes and see if one of those lights are out?

Dual filement bulb being out will trigger the light...

I am by no means an authority on such, but i'm just going to throw it out there as sometimes even the best forget the easy things.
Have you checked your brake fluid level? I have noticed something similar in an 90 escort, except it happens with the e-brake light (it doesn't have a burnt-out-brake warning light), that it turns on when you brake (and the fluid is low).

uh... the brake fluid being low has nothing to do with the tail light failure indicator on the dash. if the fluid is low, the "BRAKE" light illuminates, not the tail light failure light.

pull your box out, take it apart, and get a soldering iron... if youre lucky like me, i just had a failed solder joint. i just heated the offending pin up and added a little solder to it. that fixed my no-tail light problem. however, if you actually have a failed component in the box, thats gonna be a bit ahrder to chase down.

mine did that to me itd be fine till you stepped on the brakes.

had my aunt step on the brakes right rear bulb was out replaced it and it was fixed.

moisture damage from bad tail light seals killed mine. I just got a new one (junkyard).

Excessive resistance in the tail light wiring. This can be:

Corrosion or broken solder joints in the box (you could have a couple of bad ones)
Corrosion or broken contacts in the tail light housings.
Marginally bad bulbs, corrosion in the sockets.
Wiring damage or corrosion.

No matter how you slice it, you're going to need to get out a multimeter and troubleshoot it.

Yea, running power into your ground circuit can certainly change resistances..

Which speaker wire? I changed my head unit/front speakers. Light bulb came on for the tails with none out, head unit will mysteriously have no power sometimes.

lol... i hope you didnt use Crimp connectors for your wiring. thatsp robably the crux of the problem. god, i hate those things. they are the Bane of the 12v electrical community... i dont care if they ARE Mil-spec approved!
