Hey alls...

I've been looking around today a bit for any decent looking taillight mods for the mk3... and hadnt came up with much...

i did however have an idea and wanted some input..

a good friend of mine has an r32 gts-t skyline... the cars body lines are fairly close to that of the mk3's on the sides anyways... so i'm curious to if anyone had thought about doing an r32 tail light conversion and what it would look like.

anyways... personally... i like simple mods. not really into body kits, etc... i like to work off of the factory lines of the cars i tinker with and try to pull off something different...

any other ideas will be considered... just want to clean up the back end a bit and give it a different look not a fan of the mk4 light conversion though.. thought this might flow with the stock look a bit better.

just tossing around some ideas for my $500 project car...

thanks

And you wont find much here. We at SM happen to like the MKIII just the way it is. Not to many rice mods here :2ar15:.

I dont see an oem tailight being rice.. but to each there own i guess...

I personally also like the car as it sits... i just think its one area that could be improved upon without looking tacky/ricer ish....

That is why i asked for other ideas... something simple to make those huge red rectangles blend in a bit better with the all black car...

85celica - i was also considering that... just didnt know how it would turn out...

thanks again

It has been done and it looks like ass. Just get some 89+ tails ,or tail light covers pm KevinM he has some Regulas copies. As far as the rice comment ...Yeah gonna have to agree with 92nsx. If you didn't like the rear end why did you buy the car?

i bought it because i gave $500 for it... it only has 120k on it... and I love the way the car looks/drives.. and considering its condition... i couldnt pass it up (check sig for build thread.) I just dont like the factory tail lights... so excuse me... didnt expect to get flamed for a simple question/idea

i'd heard about the 89+ conversion but hadnt searched for any details as of yet... will def. look into it as an option... and blacking them out might do the trick as well... i just think they stand out a little too much for my tastes on an all black car.

thanks

Lights are functional pieces, so form loses to functionality. I like tail lights that are big and bright, so that the people behind me cannot fail to notice when I'm there - even when driving in dense fog, rain, or heavy snow. Anything that makes these dimmer, or blocks them from view, is a silly idea. Tail light covers, tint, etc, etc - just a quick road to getting rear ended at speed, IMO.

^What Matt said! Just look for a good set of 89+ "JDM" tails, and then move on to changing the front bumper over too!:icon_razz

i tinted the tails on my focus and didnt see much loss of light output... but i do agree that safety should come first when it comes to lighting

JDM tails are already tinted.

There are other mods you can do, like the ring on the inside to make them like RX-7 tails, LED's, ect...

I dont have any pics and i dont know if the owner would like if i posted pics of his car yet, but he has Skyline tailights on his Supra Looks clean IMO, I also prefer the pre89 tails over the 89+

both tails look fine but I prefer 89+. JDM tails are more uniform in color and are darker. I have not seen many molded in tails that look right, and none that looked right on the A70. Led ring Idea would be cool as the running light.

He used the guts of R33 taillights and made look clean I liked it very different and unique in its own way. Anyone coming to TX2k9 will prolly see it.
