Tail Lamp Failure Box

I just had a dumb question... does it matter if you have the tails Plus TFB for years that matched... both 89+ and both 89-...

just wondering if anyone has ever tried this method and if it works out better in regards to the correct warnings....

I already have the info for bypassing, etc from supracentral....

Thanks!

The circuitry in the "TFB" is designed to sense a certain inpedance for the primary rear brake light lens and the secondary (3rd brake) light lens. N/A's are probably all the same (I didn't check the online EPC), however, all others are different depending on the rear spoiler that's been used. Query the online EPC for more info...

I think I know what you mean, though i may be wrong. I just did an 89+ tail light conversion and i kept my pre89 TFB. The light on my dash is on saying that i have a tail light out. Therefore you can not use 89+ tails with pre89 TFB, or vice-versa.

The thread posted in post #8 has the answers that I know I'm looking for, however...

The other possibility is to encase another 1156 lamp somewhere where it won't cause a fire or anything dumb. Just let the car light a lamp somewhere in the rear quarterpanel somewhere so that the TLF module doesn't know the difference.

Edit: The downside, of course is that the light out lamp will go for the hidden lamp, too. :/

I know this thread old, but I have done reading and I have not found the answer. Can I just buy a TFB off of an 89+ for my 88 with 89+ tails? And then just swap the boxes out?

Read my post #8. The box expects a certain number of bulbs, and that varies if it has a lamp or LED center brake light. There's more than one model per year. If the box doesn't match your configuration, you can mod it if you know how to solder. See the link to CRE's thread for details.

Double check you don't actually have a dead brake light ;)
(this caught me out recently the result being I have a brand new box from Toyota plugged it in and the light was still on DOH)

The bulb would make just enough contact to light up when checking it but not enough to stop the fail box seeing it as faulty!
