Why are you running in wasted spark still? Is the Stinger forcing you to be in wasted spark? I'm going to assume that your coils and ignitor are 20 years old, meaning they're cracked and falling apart. That's not a good thing.

Try gapping the plugs to .022. Remove the electrical tape from the coil stems and wrap them with heat shrink (Harbor Freight will be the cheapest). And get an HKS DLI. Either that, or go 1zzfe coils or just a new set of coils.

I'm torn between new coils and DLI or the 1zz coils. Obviously the 1zz coils are the cheaper route but I'm still skeptical of whether or not they out perform new OEM ones with DLI. I'm pretty sure I can't use DLI with the 1zz coils because of the built in igniter, but can anyone confirm that? Yes unfortunately the stinger runs wasted spark. Its a new igniter, but old coils.

Randy (BIC Performance) is selling the 1zzfe kit of the 1JZ now. PM him for pricing. BTW, I'm going with the 1zzfe coil kit from BIC ;)

And if you're still skeptical about the 1zzfe coils on the 1JZ vs the stock JZ coils and ignitor, check this out. Remember, by going to the 1zzfe kit, you'll be able to sell your old ignitor (and not the coils in your case since they're junk).

There's nothing wrong with running wasted spark as long as the components in the system are up to the task. Same goes for every system in any application.

if you are in wasted spark get a DLI, put shrink wrap on your old busted cracked coils...

After fixing it up you'll hit good numbers... On a REAL 67MM turbo(pt67ddbH)

I was able to hit 647 @ 24 PSI on my mk3 tuned by john reed. 94 pump with 50/50 water/meth injection.

I'd say at 20 psi you should be in the 530-540 hp.

you have the right mix it's getting it all together.

Honestabe had me all set on getting the 1zz coils until this! Are you running wasted spark?

Numbers seem weak for the boost even with the 15% added, or was that pump gas without meth.

I was making between 430-450whp on 17psi with my old 67 setup and the engine was hurt slightly. I have no dyno #s though, but trapped 2mph higher (with a horrible bog vs good launch, 113 vs 115) then my stock twin 2jzmkiii that made 400whp, and felt a LOT faster (then the 2j). I'm sure it would of trapped at least a 116-117 if I had boost before 150' out (20mph 1st gear).

It's pump and meth. Meth comes on at roughly 10psi is full tilt at 15 or so.

This information does not support your "opinion" that wasted spark setups "suck". It states something that we all should know and that's "know what plugs to use."

What are you basing your statement on? Hear say from other threads from what Ive read.

Stock ignition should be able to handle 600WHP. What does timing map look like and why are you revving to 7100 with 272s?

Thats stock for the 1jz. With 272 cams, your powerband will be pushed higher, allowing you to gain more RPMs. With the cams (provided your headwork is in order) you might want to look into raising the stock limit.

Post your timing and fuel maps, some people might have some pointers.

With the ignition missfiring you will be way down on power!!!, I lost 50+ hp when my coils were missfiring. I run the 1zz coils with great sucsess. With the stock coils, even after being epoxied and heat shrunk would missfire at anything more than 17-18 psi, thats with a .022 gap (which makes for a crappy idle). I have been running the coils and the original plugs in the engine that I installed in May when I did the coil swap. The plugs are gapped at .030 and I have made probably 30-40 runs down the 1/4 mile and 3-4 dyno sessions at 24-25 psi all on the same plugs!!!, try that with stock ignition.

The DLI is just a band-aid fix for the ignition system. Most EMS companies will tell you that the Toyota ignitors are junk and not reccomended. You could also get some brand new 1jz coils and run an aftermarket ignitor, that would also work well too.

Here is my tune file, just change the extension to .em4 to open it in the stinger software.
