Sway bar Testing

I tested the front bars I have tonight. I have the stock pre-89, tanabe and whiteline. The Tanabe bars was softer than I expected it to be. I am going to test that one again and make sure all my recorded data is correct. The whiteline bar was stiffer than I expected. I was hoping it would have a greater adjustment range and start around the stiffness of the stock bar and then get stiffer, but that wasn't the case.

I plan on testing the stock and Tanabe rear bar on Sunday. I forgot to tell Jdub that I need the bushings for the bars, so I don't have the mounting hardware for the whiteline bars so I can't test the rear bar yet. The front bar was close enough in size to use the tanabe bushings, so I was able to test that.

I'll try and get some numbers up soon. But unless the I messed something up while testing the tanabe bar, whiteline is the stiffest at all adjustments.

So the 89+ solid bars might be the same as the JZA70 bars? If so, that would save me some time. If not, I would still like to get my hands on a set of 89+. I know there's a couple local, so I'm hoping to find one of them before getting someone to ship them, but we'll see.

Doward and Raptor, I'm sending you guys PMs.

tim the sway bar that came off my 92 was solid, but i pulled a hollow one off a late 89.maybe 91-92 had solid bar's,not sure.i never compared the 92 + jza70 bar visualy to see if they were even the same diameter.

by the part numbers I hunted down, yes, the 91-92 had different bars...

ok, kinda some BAD news...

there are quite a few different bars that came on our cars stock, this was from searching the online TSRM, I have NO IDEA about the narrowbodies, or the 1J cars... jeff Lange may be able to track those part numbers down and compare to my numbrs and see if they where different. Anyway, here's the list:

Code:
Front Bars:
48811-24041 - 01/1986 - 08/1988 - MA70
48811-24050 - 08/1988 - 08/1990 - MA70
48811-24060 - 08/1990 - 05/1993 - MA70

Rear bars:
48812-14180 - 01/1986 - 08/1986 - MA70..USA..TWC W/TEMS
48812-14200 - 01/1986 - 08/1990 - MA70
48812-14210 - 08/1990 - 05/1993 - MA70

I was just getting around to it. By the way Fuzz, you're bars are on the way back. I just dropped them off at UPS a couple hours ago.

I tested the stock rear bar and Tanabe rear bar last night. The tanabe rear bar is a little more than twice as stiff as the stock rear bar. I'm curious how the whiteline rear bar is going to measure once the rest of the pieces arrive.

As for the different stock bars, does anyone have any more definitive information. The stock bars that I have tested are from an 88 with TEMS. So for front bars, it seems there is a difference between the pre89, 89-90 and 91-92 bars for the car. Would you guys like to see all of these tested? Or would anyone with these bars lying around like to weigh them and measure the diameter before sending them. Then we could at least know how different they are.

I would also be willing to test them anyway.

Poodles, I haven't been able to find anyone local willing to help out with the Mk3 bar testing. From what year are the stock bars you have? And would you still be willing to send them?

As for rear bars, I guess the 86 bars with TEMS are different than all the other pre-89 bars. Does anyone have these, are these even worth testing? And then the pre 89 and 89-90 bars seem to be the same. And then the 91-92 bars are different.

I still want to mess around with the numbers a little more and see how each different setup would really affect the car. So I will prepare some stuff later this week and get it posted up. Is there anything specific you guys would like to see. And for any guys that donated bars or money, send me a PM if you have anything specific you would like to know, whether it be a quick analysis of your car with the bars your running or just some actual roll rates based on your car.

Cool, well let me know what you find out. Based on what you posted, your rear bar should be the same as the one on my brother's car. So just your front bar would be what I would want to test. If we can figure out if it's even different at all.

Sorry this took longer than expected. I was waiting on some people and things kept getting pushed back on their end and my end. But I have had some people's sway bars for much longer than I anticipated so I spent this afternoon testing them and tonight running the numbers. So here's everything I have.

Everything that I have will be back on its way to its owners tomorrow. Thanks again guys for helping out with this.

I will be testing the ST bars when Doward has some time to get them sent out.

And the tanabe rear bar is pretty stiff. I still need to look at the numbers a little closer in comparison to different spring rates to figure out what the best setup would be to balance out the car.
