ive read that my year the engine will drop in besides the beating of the firewall 1" to 1 1/2" or whatever the spec is? with my 7m brackets and my driftmotion.com engine mounts.

Maybe it's a typo, but just to clarify for you. 7M brackets will not work. You need 1JZ brackets or if you can't find them, BIC brackets (which driftmotion also offers). Good luck and post a lot of pictures, I'll be right behind you with a similar project.

guess there goes $200 man i thought i could use my own engine brackets... oh well... do what you have to do to go fast....

haha yeah, its the first of probably many things you didnt know that you were going to need. when i got my engine, i heard that the pan was going to work, the flywheel wasnt going to be hard to find, i thought my mounts were going to work, etc... but its worth the work, trust me.

Good luck man. I'm in the middle of doing this myself, and the devil really is in the details. All the little odds and ends that nobody seems to mention, and add up really quick.

Especially if you plan to stay stock. When people say it's easier to go single right off the bat they are not kidding. Also if you have the MKIV vs. the Aristo engine can make a big difference in how much trouble you run into.

example: The water neck on the Aristo sticks out farther than the MKIV version creating clearance issues with the fan.

The oil return elbow on the Aristo is angled for the front sump pan. When you put on the mid/rear sump pan you have to change the two 4in. sections of hose that connect to the elbow. and even the it places these sections of hose at extreme angles, and stresses that may shorten there longevity/reliability. That elbow can work but the best solution would be to get the MKIV turbo oil return elbow.

For the intake side the BIC mounts interfere with the intake manifold support brace. The brace has to be removed and two vacuum hard lines are riveted to it, that have to be drilled free.

On the exhaust side, my 87 engine mount(Not the BIC metal half, but the square rubber) interfered with one bolt on the Y-pipe coming off the turbo. You may not have this issue as your car is a 90 with the round mounts.

For the aristo motor, when your change over to the rear/mid sump oil pan the oil stick has nowhere to bolt to, a custom bracket has to be manufactured.

Those are just a few of the issues I ran into, there have been many more.
You may not have an aristo motor, so it may not mean anything to you.

yea id bet it is... so you have the na 2jz did you put the oil squirters in for the pistons? i read on wikipedia that the only difference component wise between the engine were the oil squirters to cool off the top of the piston?

Hey Dirgle, Matt here I am over in Sedro would it be possiable to meet up and shoot this shit I am currently on my third 7m and am going to be getting a very large settlement from a work injury. I am on the fence between a 1j or a 2j. My hang ups are difficulty with swaping the 2j and the difficulty of getting parts for the 1j that wont take weeks to get here and cost alot. The pros are both sets can be had for roughly the same amount of money . Both have a good amount of support in Japan for performance parts which is no biggie as the supra isnt my daily. I saw Ron R's swap being done but that isn't a realistic example for me as that guy is like jesus with a welder.

Well from the sound of it you got a MKIV 2jz, which is a good place to start. You'll see less issues than I did.

I'm always down for meeting a fellow supra owner, Just PM me when and where would work for you. I work nights M-F, so any time outside of that works for me.
