Hello everyone,
I have recently come into an 88 turbo targa with 5 speed R154 that I am going to use for my turbo swap on my 87 NA sunroof. The 88 is in prime condition but it isn't streetable anymore because the plate was cancelled and that means it can't be registered here in kuwait ever again, otherwise Id have a much better car than mine now.
Ive swapped the interior now down to the carpet, I.E. seats, Dash,(mine was separated at the heater louvres) all plastic trims etc. That part is for the mostly done except for a few more pieces in the back. I havn't decided on swapping those as they have the rests for the targa top. Might make a good platform though for car stereo amps.
Now for the biggy's,
The 88 swap car has TEMS and Anti-Lock brakes installed. My 87 has neither.
Are these swappable? I can handle any wiring issues as far as the swap goes, and it would be nice to have anti-locks and better handling. I searched around and only found threads about removing the two systems.
The Turbo swap is just waiting for a turbo I ordered from DriftMotion so after I get that the motor/Tranny swap will go into action. The engine is bone stock including intercooler, electronics intake exhaust etc. I'd rather start it that way and mod up in stages. I still have to do a compression check on the motor before the swap but preliminary checks look good, I.E. water and oil, except the turbo was hosed so there is oil in the intake and exhaust from the seal going bad in the turbo.
Any recomendations about this swap?

If you swap brakes, swap all brake parts. That is more work than I would be willing to do. ABS is certainly important in Kuwait. Tough spot to be in.

TEMS doesn't handle better, it makes for a nice street ride.

unless you dont mind the tedious work of swapping every single thing over, i honestly think you'll be just fine doing the motor swap. you might be biting off more then you can chew with doing other things so keep it simple.

they are pretty harsh there with the whole plate cancle thing. do people ever try to switch the vin numbers and tags around and cheat?

Thanks for the inputs. I am going forward with all the work, it will be worth it when done. I just hope the TEMS shocks are durable. I used to go through the stock shocks yearly, my latest KYBs from Summit lasted just under 2 years. There are more speed bumps here in residential areas than you can shake a stick at and just missing one can spell a bent rim or worse.
I thought about trying to ask someone about the number swap but before I got the car out of the yard the person that owns the yard took a hammer and chisel and took the tag off the Door, Firewall and chiseled the number off the firewall. He forgot the one under the windshield and I didn't tell him otherwise he probably would have taken out the window to get to it and damaged the dash that I wanted.

If you go through shocks that fast you will just be spending twice as much each time you need a new one with the tems units.

I dont know if you'd get your arm cut off over there if you get got for this but....

Why not just swap the vin's?? or is it a pretty rigourus inspection over there?
