Motor mounts are also different. Its a much better idea to just swap the right motor into the car instead of playing with electronics and other stuff such.

The best way to do this is to get the JDM motor, rebuild, or at least overhaul it, and when you swap it into the car, swap over any sensors that are different. Keep your original wiring harness, ECU, motor mounts etc. The mechanical differences are minimal enough that you don't have to worry about it, although the redline for the newer motor is technically lower, if you do a good rebuild, it won't be an issue. (If so, just mark your tach.)

ok just to be clear, the harness i have should work rite, the motor mounts should line up ok rite, so its not as complicated as it sounds rite.

for your harness just use the one off of the 87.
and i'm doing the same thing right now and the trouble i ran into was the thermostat housing was a little different you will need a bsv or whatever that blue vac hoses connect to on the thermostat.
also i have a hose from the rad that is just hanging there

that is all i can remember from my swap

The harness that you already have will work fine, you just need to swap over sensors that may have different connectors. The motor mounts that you have will bolt onto the other block just fine, but the late '89+ (round) mounts won't bolt to the crossmember for an '86.5-early '89 (square) mount car, so you need to swap the mounts over. Once you do that, there's no problem.
