Suspension issue?

I have a 1990 N/A Supra.

Problem is, when i tried to jack it up, the wheels would not stay lifted off the ground, they would come up, and then slowly sink down to the floor. I finally got them to stay up when i jacked the car up about a foot and a half off the car.

What could cause this problem? I already plan to replace the shocks and springs with H&R springs, but I'm not sure what shocks to use or if this would be a bushing issue, which I also plan to replace.

Edit: Additional Information: There is rust on the outside of the outter portion of the spring, i think this may be my issue. can anyone confirm?

sounds to me like your jack was loose and not supporting the weight of your supra.

Negatron.

Just gonna take a wander here and say that sounds like your struts are shot. If it takes that long for them to return to full extension, it should be instant, then they are prolly blown.

Get some new ones or upgrade.

To test this, take off the strut push it in, and see how long it takes to return to full extension, I'm betting it takes forever.

I cannot get the bolts off with baic hand tools. I'll work on finding a solution.

I don't have an impact gun, but my buddy does. I'll see if he's home.

Edit yet again... Not home. Does anyone live in Lake County, IL? Must have an impact gun, that i can borrow/use

Why do you need an impact gun? Everything should come off with basic hand tools, I've changed my suspension 3 times now and never had to use an impact gun. A good breaker bar will do the trick

I actually bought my first breaker bar when I did the suspension on my supra. I was amazed how easy the bolts came out with the breaker bar.

If you for some reason can't or don't want to wait to get a breaker bar. You can use a normal wrench on the bolt then whack the wrench with a rubber mallet to turn it. That has worked many times for me over the years.

I tried, that was the second tool I used, and it is not moving at all, just keeps slipping off as if the bolt is rounded off. I guess an impact wouldn't fix that either. Any suggestions here?

Edit: I'm such a dumbass, wrong size socket, its a 9/16ths nut, not 15mm. dumbass!

You're talking about STOCK suspension h/w right? I don't see as to how your car would have standard bolts. Our cars are metric. So, your suspension bolts should be a 14mm. I think the biggest socket i used on my suspension was a 14mm. I know the top of the struts where it goes into the towers are 14mm.

Well I'm not sure. It sure looks stock. However, The bolts were 11/16ths for the big one and 9/16ths for the three little ones. I'm thrown a little bit as well.

Try 17mm and 14mm.

The only size sockets and wrenches you need for ALMOST anything on this car, or toyotas in general are 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 21mm.
