Surge Tank...

Searches only bring up the word "surge tank" (all posted by CRE) but nothing identifying what it does. My car is missing the surge tank, and the vacuum lines going to it. But the car runs normal, doesn't stall, doesn't idle sporadically, in fact, I didn't even know it was missing until I read the TSRM, and realized it wasn't there. My ACIS works fine (at least I think it does, I definitely feel a little extra push at 4k)

Was its removal beneficial, or could my supra be just a little faster/run better with it?

any ideas..?

If you feel a difference at 4k, then your ACIS isn't working...

I thought it provided an extra push due to the added flow when the flap opens?

If you can feel it kick in, then it does not work.

Low speed torque is deficient for the plenum size and RPM use. So that increases low speed power.

If yours does not work, then you will always be on the high rpm curve.

Yes, I think it does, IIRC... but it's been a while since I looked at the 7M-GE vacuum diagram, but I think it's needed.

And the ACIS probably is worth fixing. I mean, when you're NA, you want all the power you can get, right?

The intake is too big to give an NA 7m enough torque at the low end. So they close them off untill your over 4000rpm then you get the full intake and you go wheee and get a cool noise.
