Aaron if you DL steam and buy the games through there then you never lose them. As long as you can login your account you can re DL the games you bought for as many times as you want. No more busted CD's or keys or worrying about losing the data on your comp.

you can even down load and play from friends computers just not at the same time..

Jake - don't get 4gb of RAM if you are running XP - only do it if you are running Vista. I don't think XP can fully address 4gb...
...and you'll need 4gb in Vista to make it run close to as well as a nice XP rig with 2gb of low CAS latency RAM!:arcadefre

You're never going to use more than 2GB ram Jake. Put 2GB in and put the money towards a better video card.

Heh - i use Windows XP x86-64 and although i have 1.5gb of free memory after everything is loaded up - i'd still want more memory available - games like Crysis are going to KILL 2gb of memory very quickly. Stuttering, anyone? :)

2 gigs min, I'd run 4 gigs because I have a lot of applications running at once and BF runs better with 2+ gigs.

no version of windows currently can use more than 2GB of RAM. It doesn't even adress it like it's there.

That's why vista sucks, it uses WAY too much RAM just running the OS...

Also, a little known thing about STEAM, games run FASTER when downloaded through steam because they're packed better and install cleaner. I bought RO in the store and activated it on STEAM...

wanna know probably THE most insainly fun game to play? Bouncy Q3A

weapons don't do damage, they just knock you back, so you win by throwing people off the edge (or beating them against walls, but it's not as fun)

Really? How do you know this for certain? I always thought win xp recognized 4 gigs or less and xp 64 recognize 8 or so.

Um - Windows XP can address 4gb of memory - but use only 3gb for applications simply because its a 32-bit OS and it's reached the limit. You can force XP to allocate upto 3gb of memory for applications by using the /3gb switch in the boot.ini file - windows will always take the upper 1gb of memory for itself.

XP 64 in theory is limited to 16 terabytes+, but in practice is limited to about 8gb, or whatever the motherboard supports. I dont know why people havent switched to a 64-bit OS already - the OS and the hardware has been around for a good 3 years at least - come on people, get with the program! :D
