Bad news.... While I was installing the new sender I decided to do a more in depth inspection of the turbo. Looks like the blades have touched a little and there is some thrust bearing play. Are these cars known for eating journal bearing turbos due to the oil pressure? I was under the impression the turbo only had like 3k miles on it. I'm thinking of getting a gt4088r because a ball bearing turbo should need less oil... Thoughts? Should I go ball bearing or rebuild this one?

Thanks man I'll take a look :) haven't been on in a while but I figured I'd post a little update. I closed the deal on selling my E36 M3 which means I was swimming in cash lol... arriving tomorrow is a brand new garret gt3788r ball bearing turbo with a bunch of fittings etc. Also coming in the next few weeks will be black corbeau a4s with sliders and some driftmotion goodies including their upgraded oil pump and piston oil squirters. pics to come as stuff starts rolling in :). Anyways if anyone wants gt4088 carcass PM me with an offer, I'll let it go real cheap. It Will need a rebuild and a new compressor wheel.

Well something mysterious happened to the gt4088. Maybe back in the middle of the build thread when he blew an oil line it got hurt or something but it is definitely one very sad turbo lol

Bored at work right now so here's some pics from the last few weeks.

Spoiler was really the only ratty looking thing on the car so I CF wrapped it. Came out really well IMO :)

the drain line was weeping oil so i made a new one, now with ANs on both sides

And here is a pic of the damage to the turbine blades. Seems like it was mostly the thrust play that caused housing contact. Side to side play seems somewhat close to the .030" spec that I read somewhere. Id like to get the whole thing disassembled so I can look at the exhaust wheel too but it seems that no amount of beating will separate the exhaust housing and the cartridge....

Look what the ups man brought today :) got done clocking it properly and test fitting... I want to get some fresh bolts before I finish installing it though.

Well my seats arrived, corbeau A4s. It was between these and the sparco R100s because I wanted a reclining seat that wasn't too too expensive. I like how the corbeaus look a little better though. Ended up getting them for 950 shipped with sliders :). We will see how they hold up but I have to say they are much more comfortable than I expected. Im skinny though, I doubt they would be a good choice for anyone of a larger build as they are pretty narrow.

well i feel like a dumbass now.... took her into the family shop to have the driftmotion oil pump and oil squirters installed..... they checked my oil pressure with their own gauge as a precaution... its making 12PSI at idle and 48psi at 3000rpms! my stupid gauge was messed up! so i guess ill be returning the pump and squirters and spending that cash on something else lol. In other news the new turbo is awesome. Full spool by 3500 and plenty of room to make more power. This thing rips already even at the minimum 10psi the EBC lets me set. Id recommend it to anyone looking for a new turbo for this car. Im looking for a headliner now. anyone feel free to PM me if you have one you would like to sell.
