Hello to All,

I have an 87 Supra Targa (7mgte) 5spd with a dead engine. Fortunately, I found a replacement JDM engine with 50K miles and what appears to be a great mechanic specializing in Toyotas & Lexus with over 25+ yrs of experience. (He use to work for Toyota) Anyway, before we I proceed with the rebuild. I seen several repetative statements being said.....change stock headgasket to HKS metal headgasket, replace original head studs with ARP head studs, torque the headstud down to 72 and not the factory 52 , etc... I'm looking to probably produce 300 plus hp. Can I get a little more insight from the group on anything else I might be missing. Their are a lot of Threads here, too many to actually find a step by step process. I just want to make sure I headed in the right direction.

Thanks

you can make up to 400bhp on a stock headgasket but while its out(engine) might as well do the metal gasket cause youll need to have the block resufaced to do it right. arp studs should be in order too. good luck .hope you get it runnin soon

i agree. if its out you might as well put in a metal head gasket. if you take out the head bolts you might as well put in the arp's. clean and freshen up everything that you can while its still out. its gonna make it easier in the long run.

400 hp...... easy if you have a pocket full of money to throw out the window. lol.

its actually relatively cheap all things considered...

if you have a good bottom end to build on youre looking at

mhg job : $500
550s: $350
any upgraded ct of your choice: $500
fuel pump: $80
lexus afm: $100
afc: $150
mbc: $20
intake: $100
exhaust: $500

guess what...that right there is good enough for 400hp pretty reliably also. and its for under 2500 bucks.....not bad at all
