there is no way you have rod knock. like what was said above that shit does not come and go.
on the night it happened to me i went out to a party and had been blowing off regular oil checks because i was new to owning a supra (used to mini truck 4x4's that just take abuse). on my way home i sorta drove the car a little hard. nothing crazy. then the next day i started it up. drove only about a block or two at light throttle just puttin and heard this tat, tat, tat right at 2500-3000 then it was gone past that range. i turned around right away to find out it was 2 quarts low on oil. from that day on it got worse and worse. never went away. at first i only heard it at light throttle in that range. i only had the car for a little over a month and paid $3900 for it. i decided i would drive the thing to the ground and just replace the motor. i got three months of daily driving, drag racing, and what not. good times. :biglaugh:
my advise. drive it to the ground and do a motor swap. but try to take care of it in the mean time. its just your first motor. there will be many more to come. LOL. thats how i did it. who knows. yours might go for a year or two before she blows.
edit: oh and flant the car around you dad as much as possible. and never ever ever ever ever let him touch your keys again either.
and tell him to FUCK OFF.
