Most pre-89's will have the wiring for it, but not all.
No 89+ cars have the wiring for it.

Last question, is there any advantage of the 89+ climate control over the pre-89 climate control when you put it in a pre-89 car?

Well, look for yourself :) (same car)

Clean-looking 86.5-88 CC's rock!

Here's a pic of mine...staying true to the 87! :biglaugh:

88 Looked nicer. ;)

Also, my hazard switch is on the left because I wanted it there. :) There is a coin holder where the hazard used to be. I wanted all the switches on one side instead of 3 switches and a coin holder on one side and 1 switch on the other. But then I got the new steering wheel and my cruise main switch moved there, so I ended up having a coin holder on each side, haha. I may still go to the 90+ illumination dial though, to eliminate my 2nd coin holder. We'll see.

The only advantage of the pre 89 controller that I can see is that you can have the vents on auto and the fan on manual (or vice versa). With the 89+ its auto everything or nothing. Actually, I need to go check mine at lunch! Maybe if you press the auto button, and then select a manual fan speed the vents stay on auto. The addition of the heater/defrost combo button on the 89+ was a major advance. I use that one a lot.

^^^ What he said. In fact, the button I believe presses 2 seperate buttons behind it on the 89+, I had wanted to cut it in half so you could press each side seperately, but never tried yet.

Yeah, if I recall correctly, it is two seperate switches. The problem is the spring and armateur used to hold the buttons down while releasing the others... I don't think one of those two buttons had a catch to hook on the retainer and hold it down... just one of them did. I could be remembering it wrong, it's been a while since I rebuilt mine.
