I got an 87 turbo car it has a laundry list of issues and I'm new to supras. Ill start with the fact it always runs rich I've put 3 sets of plugs in it and all were fuel soaked and black. It also studders when I throttle it up. I guess ill leave it at that for now. Please help

Use the link in my signature, below, to check your diagnostic trouble codes. Report back your findings.

I have to appoligise I only have my black berry to log on here so I haven't had much time to search the net. I tried pulling the codes following instructions from my haynes manual and the check engine light doesn't blink at all not even to tell that the ecm is function
ing properly. Any other ideas where to start? I'm fairly certain the check engine light bulb is good because it came on a few times while I was warming it up.

Good compression across the board still can't check the codes if there's a boost leak I can't find it n ill work on burning that manual when I get home. Its an 87 so I jumped the T and E1 terminals in the diagnostic thing lol

Your check engine light will blink regardless if you have codes or not if you have those pins jumped correctly. Try using a paperclip and bending it in such a way that it "springs" against the sides of the connectors for a better connection.

i think perhapse i have some severe wireing issues... still no check engine light blinking... and i know the bulb is good... i connected the T and E1 terminals. my diagnosis box thing dosent have a TE1 connector. who ever had it b4 me ran a wire from the fuse box under the hood to the fuse box inside the car if i disconect that wire the fuel pump dosent come on. idk... when i do get it to start it still runs really rich. cant get it to idle down to 800 rpm to check the timing.

well guys i finally got the check engine light to blink but the only code it gives me is 43. and i know my starter is bad. what would a bad battery do for the ecu? if i let the car run long enought it seemes to do just fine the erattic idle goes away it still sputters a little but i assume its because its still running extrememly rich... so bad theres a black trail of carbon deposits behind the car in the drive way. i was thinking if the battery is bad it wont allow the ecu to retain sensor information therefore every time i start it up the computer has to "relearn" the sensors. any other thoughts or ideas?

Yes, if the battery is not good, the ECU will reset. That will has an effect on your idle as it has to relearn idle. The wire associated to the fuel pump, makes me wonder if your car has any power upgrades, such as a Walbro pump. A worn out dry rotted wiring harness can cause more headaches than an ex-wife! The harness could also be the problem with your starter.

ok well thanks for the info on the battery. i helped the previous owner install the fuel pump and as far as i know its a autozone stock replacement, and id love to replace the wireing harness but the only place ive found one is the toyota dealership and they want $727.95 for it and i dont have that kinna money. i also need some help with the vacuum system what is a "bvsv" and where is it located... perhapse if someone had a detailed vacuum map it would help me.

The BVSV is the part at the top of the water neck. It should have two vacuum lines running to it, but those nipples break off, so you may have 2, 1, or none at all.

For parts: You sound like you need the number to Champion Toyota in Texas. I will post it in this post as soon as my phone charges enough to get it.

Here is a link to the vacuum lines. At the top, just under the black line, is a link to the factory service manual. Click on that one, and bookmark it once there. I haven't opened my TSRM since finding it online.

Ok well apparently my car doesn't have a bvsv how vital is it? There are 2 things on the water neck one is an electrical sensor with one wire pluged into it an the other is an aftermarket temp sensor. Ill try to post pictures when I get a chance
