I just put on my CF hood and yes its worth it. Stock hood is heavier than you think and CF hood is lighter than you think. It was definitely a good purchase

bah.....rubbish. No one wants to admit their cost on CF hoods. I bet half the people got a killer deal and dont want too many people getting it cause they wanna be more unique, then the other half just spent way too much and is too embarassed. :icon_razz

How about MK3 CF hoods that have a fiberglass structure which is skinned with Carbon Fiber and weighs 26 lbs? I will be opening an account next week with a CF Hood manfacturer (makes them in house to order) and thinking about starting a GB here. Thoughts?

you guys and your sad attempts to lighten the mk3, lol

Ive got one sue way to cut about 300lbs off your mk3...

buy a mk2!

but seriously, if you want a CF hood cause it looks cool or you want the brag factor, then go for it. But if you really cut some weight out of your car...put the fork down! :biglaugh:

the problem i see with these carbon fiber hoods with fiberglass underlays is the quality seems poor after awhile. and the edges of the hood seem as if they were sanded to fit specs. (this is on 95% of the carbon fiber/fiberglass underlay hoods) plus the quality of the carbon fiber after about a year or two doesn't seem so great. but if you don't care much about looks and want a lighter hood i guess this would work.

Well to start your car is a targa which is automatically 80 lbs heavier than mine. I've removed everything there is to remove except for power steering and I have a very small lightweight stereo (whole setup less than 5 lbs [i need my music]), and if I can't remove it I just replace it with something lighter (Hood, wheels, flywheel, driveshaft, battery, seats, my stereo, etc.). I could still do lexan windows, but I like my tint and the car is light enough already.

I didn't wanna say the price of the hood cuz I bought it used so I'm not sure if its ok ;)
