Yes thats right 10 years :aigo:, previous owners last had the tires changed in 2000. I got the car in 2007. Story goes my dad assuring me my tires are fine and still have some life in them. The tire in question are the front ones. Looked like this.
Front Left (Underinflated most of its life before i got it)

you get the idea :1zhelp: of course like most people aka parents, they wont listen to why you want to spend $500 on new tires until something bad happens. Well while on the freeway doing 65 the steering wheel started to shudder and shake violently. I poked my head out the window and my tire is wobbling like a mofo. I pull over put the spare on and proceed to yell at my dad whos still says theres nothing wrong and its my tie rods. :nono: Anywho i pick him up show him the tire and he just ignores me the rest of the night, probably because i was right all along. So next day i go get me some new tires.

So yeah ive got two in the front already the other two are going in the rear tommorow. Just thought id share my pleasing and relieving experiance. I think those other two tires wouldve seriously injured me.

grats on the new tires!

although I no longer have to deal with my parents buying stuff for me any more, heres a tip: Make it think its their idea. something like "Dad my car is shaking at speed... Is my tire supposed to be bald here?" or you could try "dad I lost to a corvette, think a bigger turbo would help?"

Being as that the old tires were made in 1999 or earlier, you were also at risk for a tire heat failure.

If you're running tires that are over 6 years from when they are made you're taking a serious risk. There was a huge news story on it a few years ago...

Hey guys pressure do you folks reccomend for the tires. It says do not exceed 40psi on the sidewall. Right now i have 35psi when the tire is cold. I was thinking i should let some out and run 33psi. Opinions?

32 front/back. whatever's on my door sill/glovebox

Glovebox says 28 Front/Back that seems a bit to low but i do think im going to let some air out to 33.5psi.

I put my SP67GT on my 1J, dad had a look and it and got a blower for his Belair a couple of months later.

I think for psi youll want to do 33 in the front, and 35 in the rear.

Those old tires were DONE awhile back!:aigo:

Glad to see you getting fresh rubber! The BS Potenza Pole Positions are great tires. I've run a couple sets of the RE960AS PP's on my Solara and Supra.

On the pressure, are you sure it doesn't say "40 psi MAX to SEAT TIRE?"

I run my tires at 40~42 psi and have for YEARS. (I believe MAX is 50psi on these)

These are quiet, ride GREAT and have fantastic rain traction in the first 60% of tread life. (Some hydroplane at over 70~80 after that...)

ENJOY!

PS: ALWAYS do the alignment after new rubber.;)
