I was at a shop today and saw this turbo diesel truck on the dyno....

HOLY SHIP 800whp on a truck. I also notice the guy had like a 4 inch exhaust system. My question is I have seen 3 and 4 inch exhaust on supras and even then its still louder then these trucks. Not to mention these trucks have bigger turbo, 2 cylinder more, and bigger bore. So why would a typical supra with exhaust that big be louder then the turbo diesel. The guys truck I saw today told me its a straight exhaust system with no cat nor anything yet it was that loud compare to a supra with that same size exhaust.

maybe it's the fact that our cars are comparitively smaller and the exhaust has a shorter distance to travel compared to trucks, therefore being louder. compared to a Cummins Ram 2500, i'm pretty sure my muffler would end somewhere around its axle. a shorter distance to travel would make ours sound louder, wouldn't it? don't flame me too much... just throwin somethin out there.:biglaugh:

Supra = Inline 6
Most diesels = Inline 6

Most diesel puckups are V8's. Chevy is V8, Ford is V8, Dodge is I6 = Cummins = The best and I want one. Early chevy diesel conversions were chevy small block (V8) gas engines converted to diesel during the period when diesel fuel was much cheaper.

My friend has a 4" to 5" and it is louder than my car. My car screams and gets close at high rpm, where the diesel redline's at 4,000. the truck's a much deeper sound, the supra is more high pitched sound at redline, which could make it seem louder.

the brand new 6.7 cummins is SO quiet, its like a gas engine. the old early 90's cummins sounded like they were rattleing apart. moral of the story, i love cummins diesels. That will most likely be the next vehicle i get.

I make a 4" full exhaust with no muffler or cat on my '05 Cummins....I'd be impressed if any supras on here were louder than it. :)

Supra exhausts are loud because people who fit them want them to be loud. I have a home made 3" exhaust from turbo back with just a rear silencer (muffler) and it is still pretty quiet.

There is a guy around here that had a 3.5 or 4" on an NA, I bet that'd come close. It's loud as hell.

My 2K Cummins is a straight 4" from the turbo back, and it's loud as can be. I make about 400 HP and 800 lbs of torque. My 91 Supra is so quiet at stock I can't hardly hear it running at all.
I can't imagine the Supra being as loud as the Dodge. But I don't try to put a camper on it's roof, and a 20' bass boat on it's tail and then try to drag it across the country!

the new 6.4 Powerstroke's are the same, you can barely tell it's a diesel at idle. That will probably be my next big purchase.

My Supra's really quiet. I hit rev-limiter a lot now that I recirculated the wastegate because I don't know how high I'm revving :).

I have a rediculously huge muffler and resonator. I'll try to post pictures of it, but it barely fits under the car.

This is the old one. The new one's BIGGER.
