First of all people like to argue that short throw is different then short shift
The fact is they are pretty much the same the only difference is if you do strictly short shift (SOGI) mod then the shifter is lower and closer to the transmission.
If you do strictly short throw 90% aftermarket shifters then the shifter is more or less OEM hight but less travel & more force to notch into gear and travel all the same as short shift with the exception of the shifter knob height.
There is also mixed shifters that haves both short throw and shift, but the hight is between OEM and short shift because if you do to much throw and shift at the same time your having the overall shifter length the same length as the lowest safe short shift stick the leverage is unsafe you will miss shift more then likely it will also be to notchy and sloppy to hit gears percisionly.
Here is an illustration that shows the physics
Knowing this and being how cheap and crafty I am I decided to go with a low profile shifter that looks good in the car doesnt stick up like an old pick up and is free
The SOGI mod is one of the best solutions that fits everyones budget but I did a slightly modified version of it because it uses a general aftermarket shifter with set screws that come apart when on the track or vibrate loose I decided to keep threaded like factory so I could use the factory knob.
You perform the normal SOGI mod except you trim down the shaft and top threaded piece and weld them back together the desired hight so you could use an OEM threaded knob I found in my case was about an overall length of 8.5" it sets the shifter about 2-3" above the console so you dont mash fingers and gets good shifts.
You can also machine down the O.D. of the shaft then tap/die thread your shaft to 12mm x1.25 pitch I found welding it togethr was cheaper easier faster in my case.
Either way when doing and SOGI mod it is better to install new bushings and the heaviest shifter you could find here is my setup.
