I just bought a 1990 and after i added some oil in it the car started driving sluggish. for instance when i step on the gas it doesnt pick up the way it used too. The oil i used is castrol syntec 10w 40. Could it be that i put too much oil?

Well, how much did you put in. +1 would be ok, in fact, it is recommended.
Have you checked for codes to help rule out possible problems?

ok the problem is that i put too much oil in which is weird because everytime i checked the dipstick it kept coming up empty which is why i kept putting more in. I drove the car for about 30-45min like this..do you think that would mess the engine up?

im in brooklyn

Did you check to make sure you put the oil pan nut back on after the change, or the oil filter for that matter? You're pouring it in and it's not showing on the dip stick? Are you sure the oil just isn't very clear? Check under your car for signs of leakage.

Car smoking when running?

ok well i got another person to check out the car today and apparently its not because of too much oil. They were saying that it could be the clutch. Im going to do the code check tomorrow and see what comes up.

IMHO, it's not the clutch. Give us more details. Does it rev to a certain RPM and then stutter the rest of the way up? Does the car idle ok? More questions I can't think of right now....Also, you said that nothing is showing up on the dipstick. Is it still showing nothing? Figure that out first. Make sure you have oil.

I took it to a mechanic today and he said its the clutch gone bad. Its not completely gone but its almost there. So now i have to get a new clutch..how much will that cost to get a good one not too expensive though?

First things first, and free. Have you checked your codes yet? Second, I have never had a clutch go bad, so I wasn't 100% sure if a worn out clutch could make a car "sluggish". I have driven a car where the clutch and pressure plate were bad, whereas the rpm's would raise but the car barely accelerated. Though I wouldn't choose the word sluggish to describe that.

In my last car I used a dual friction Centerforce. It was there mid level clutch. Street/Strip. Held 110% over stock. Never had any problems with it.
In the supra I use an Exedy multiplate clutch. It doesn't seem to be as aggressive as the Centerforce, but it will hold 500+ft.lbs of torque. Though I haven't gotten there yet, so who knows. I can't remember what I payed for the Centerforce, but the Exedy was about $350.00. It was cheaper than the Centerforce iirc. Flywheel, throwout bearing, and alignment tool included. If your going that route, spend the extra money and have the flywheel lightened and the clutch balanced.
