Well about one mile from my exit the car over heated on me and stalled.
Coolant sprayed all over the driver side of the engine bay. Smoking like a fiend.

All hope lost, call the tow truck, confident that it's BHG. (Damn you 7m)

So my question is, looking at the rebuild for her what all happens to these engines when they Blow the head? Most of the rubbers (Including the Head gasket I'm pretty sure). What am I going to need to replace in the rebuild? Looking at doing this in my parking lot so...

Easiest thing is to get a head gasket set. Add belts, plugs, hoses, crankshaft and oil pump drive seals and you have all the peices needed for a complete HG job. The only thing extra would be ARP studs or bolts and metal head gaket if you plan on pushing things later on.

Or a heater hose or the right angle hoses or the rubber cap under the #6 header port?

I guess the 7m has such a rep as BHG that it's assumed. I've had mine since 88 and havn't had one, I feel left out.

If you are confident that its a headgasket then you need a full head gasket set and If you cheap out then it will blow again. Depending on how it bad it was you may need to resurface the head and block.

If you are unsure then I would check all the cooling hoses. The cooling hoses do have a tendency to blow especially do to the age of these cars.

I had this same thing happen to me and it turned out not to be a bhg. There is a coolant line that runs up through the middle of the intake manifold that ruptured and sprayed everything on the driver's side with coolant. Had a lot of smoke also. The lady at the gas station I was stuck at thought I was pouring water on my engine to cool it down.

Word, I'll look at everything tomorrow when I really get into, but BHG is the first thing I think any supra owner assumes. I didn't have time or really the effort to even want to tare it apart tonight. Thanks all.

Well, I hope it's something minor, but.......

If it got so hot, that it stalled,
no matter what caused it in the first place,
Most likely the gasket is toast now........
(if not more damage)

And add to the list of things needed to do the job right:
New thermostat !

What makes you think it isn't a coolant hose next to your distributor? I had one do that once.

Last I looked the distributor was on the passenger side of engine. :evil2: :aigo:
