GTE SM TO GTE
i've made a quick page on how to hardwire the supermonitor just to help others along if they need it :)

this is for the 86-88 7mgte, i have used some diagrams from the 89 tewd from cygnus but from memory most of 89 is the same as pre :)

once i have the super monitor here.. i'll be starting the install & mod to the dash and let you all know how it goes and how good my wiring instructions were lol

Is this for the GE or GTE super monitor? Also, are you installing it to the appropriate car or modding it to make it fit any?? For instance, (GE SM to GE car, GTE SM to GTE car) or (GE SM to GTE car, GTE SM to GE car)

I think most pre 89 GTE's were prewired and some GE's. My 86.5 was not but my 87 turbo donor car was even though it was not equipped with the SM, so I pulled my dash and swapped the complete body harness. I bought a GTE supermonitor and installed it. If you already have the plug then it's plug n play. Mounting bolts for the computer already in place.

Supragirl, check to see if you already have the plug. It hangs above the break pedal. I bet you do and if so you don't have to do any hardwiring. It will just plug in. Changing out the display on the instrument panel is a piece of cake and there is no modding you have to do there either. Plug n play.

gtsfirefighter: heeehee, you didn't check to see where i was did you ;)

I have a rhd mk3 and we didn't get the supermonitor ;)

btw, it seems i was supposed to update the thread when i got it all done and let you know how it went.
Well... it's all done and works awesome, the only thing that doesn't work is Engine oil - unsure why and fuel consumption/economy is way out of wack due to my injectors :)

Here's a vid :)

Question for you since you've got a lot of hands-on experience with the SM... is there any functional or harness difference between the Super Monitor for the 7MGTE and one for the 7MGE? I've got one off a 7MGE and plan to hook it up with my GTE, but I think I read somewhere that it depends on the ECU for it's data, which means that it won't work right on my GTE since the N/A ECU is different. Any thoughts on the subject?

Thanks...

i would imagine the only difference being the fuel economy as the ge injectors are smaller than gte.

That's all i can think of right now, basically everything else will be the same.

Hope so, otherwise I'll be looking for someone with a GTE monitor to do a trade with. Thanks for the quick response...

Hello All!

I'm not new to automotive mechanical or electrical, but I am new to SupraDom. I picked up an 86.5 in nearly pristine condition with only 115k. I've read through forums and blogs for 2 weeks about the Super Monitor, which seems like a subject that's been done to death without much functional information.

My problem: Someone who previously owned the car obviously purchased an SM and installed it, without making sure the car was wired for it. How do I know this? Because the car isn't wired for it...the SM just sits there with a dumb blank stare! There is no plug going into the control unit above the clutch, and no plug hanging around for it. It's the right SM, as it has 7M-GE on it's label.

I've seen the posts with the hardwire instructions and pinouts, but it's pretty vague to us new Supra owners. I don't know where the M1 plugs are, or the ECT plug, or the ABS plug, plus there is no pinout pic of the TCCS ECU, which I understand is above/behind the glove box. I'm not afraid to splice this thing in, but DAMN these things are heavy on the wiring! Does anyone have a more detailed bit of info, like an actual 87-88 wiring diagram? Also, does anyone by chance have a plug for it available to sell. Unlike Suprra Girl who is obviously talented in ways I'll never be, I have no desire to individually solder the wires onto the ECU plug tabs.

Thanks for any info you have!

I have updated the page somewhat, hope it helps.

I got a cut harness from a donor car to plug into my supermonitor ecu. I thankfully did not have to do the solder to each pin trick :)

Also there was always a pinout for 86-88 Engine ecu on the page ;)

Suprra_girl's right, the only difference between the GE and GTE version is the fuel calculations.... which are worthless the minute you start upgrading anyway.

Thanks Suze! The pinout diagram is great, although the last 10 times I viewed that page, it ended at the cruise control plug. Thanks for fixing.

If anyone has an SM harness plug you're willing to sell, please let me know. I'd love to see this thing actually work! :1zhelp:

Sorry best I could do

So here's a list of years you can use for the next 5 years

This year 2008 - Use 2003
2009 - Use 2004
2010 - Use 2005
2011 - Use 2006
2012 - Our next leap year - No year matches, so you'll have to just survive the first 2 months then set your calendar to 2001
