I was originally thinking about doing a dual walbro setup, but I thought against it and want to go external instead. My initial idea was to get a sump but I was scared that cops will pull me over when they see that in california. Next is a Fuel cell, i can get a 15 gallon one and just have it out of view, but I rather not have 15 gallons of fuel sloshing around behind me. So are the pros and cons of end besides a sump looks bad ass.

i think that the cell put out of sight would be nice. my original plan was to drop the tank and cut out part of the spare tire well to hang brackets for the cell. it would be nice to hide it partially under the hatch.

Fuel cell would be to square to fit in the stock location unless you would probably cut out the spare tire well and reweld a flat piece in place of the spare along with something retaining the stock filler kneck... By then and only then in my opinion would it be worth it. Even if it sold a 600.00 ready to run and fit.

I found a fuel cell that would fit but then I dont like it's placement and besides that, a sump is a whole lot cheaper but just as efficient

... right fuel cells are just a square box with a sump no additional features that may make them better than a modified stock tank :slap:

Ok, I am pretty stupid.

What distinguishes a fuel cell from a gas tank anyway? To the uninformed, they both are tanks intended to hold gas (or other fuel). I tried a few searches and could not nail down a defining difference. Is it bladders, baffling, foam, race rating, venting or construction? Please enlighten me. What makes a fuel cell different and better than a fuel tank?

Also, is it possible that a well designed fuel tank may be superior to fuel cell? How is the design of the Toyota tank? It has baffles and is slightly sumped. Seems to me it would work better at getting gas to a pump than a rectangular can, which is what the typical fuel cell appears to be.

I come from a land down under
BF: A Cell is x100 safer due to it's construction and has much better fuel control being foam filled. (in my big accident back in 92 a lower control arm sliced through my custom tank like butter dumping all 100 litres of fuel)

Cells usually have well designed Fill and pickup points.

You can design a good tank but the Cell will always be better, Also ANY welding work on a Tank means you'll have corrosion issues later if you don't have the Tank ReGalvanised. (I used to use "Kreme" It's a product used inside Harley custom tanks to seal them and prevent corrosion)

The stock Mk3 tank is okish but still suffers from fuel slosh in hard cornering.

This old dog was 30 too. Still like to think I and can run faster than most pups. At least willing to run faster then another old dog and his woman in a ZO6 today :icon_bigg (their limit was about 140 (kmh of course) ;) All three of us enjoyed the spurt. I was in the 911.

IJ, then the main feature of a fuel cell is foam filling (presumably except for those that use bladders). Is the foam throughout with exception of fuel pump feed and sender location? I am considering a fuel cell since the tank is bit rusty inside.
